Seat Cowl Install HELP! PLZ!

So, I picked up the seat cowl and flyscreen from the dealership today. The screen was in a box with mounting hardware and instructions. The cowl had been in storage and was just wrapped in protective shipping material, no hardware, no instructions.

I thought it was a simple bolt on using the existing seat bolts, but they don't fit through the holes in the cowl! Did the dealership muck up and forget to give me mounting bolts? Am I a total spaz and am missing something obvious?

I get that the black plastic at the back of the seat needs to come off. Do I remove the grab strap too?

But mostly, how do I bolt it up? Am I missing pieces?!

Thanks

Wait a minute. What year do you have? I have an '07. From my recollection... Oh farrgh. I can't locate my instructions. Anyway, You remove the black piece from the rear of the seat. you slide the cowl over the seat and use the two bolts on the side to bolt up to the seat. Am I missing something??

Yes, we're both missing something here... The big black bolts that sit in the side of the seat normally, WON'T fit through the holes in the sides of the cowl!

I have an '07. Did they give me the wrong year cowl? Do the bolt sizes differ?

On photos I see of the cowl on dealers and accessories websites, there is a silvery bolt going there...

the black bolts stay in the seat. It is suppose to come with bolts that screw into the black pieces on each side of the seat that has threads in them. You don't have to take them out.

The black pieces on either side of the seat are not threaded, they are just a an alan key bolt that the alan key in the tool kit fits into. Nothing can be screwed into them.

HeliBif, well that does not sound right. The seat cowl should have come with bolts that thread into the 2 metal pieces on the sides of the stock seat body. Are you sure there isn't a thread under the allen key cutout on yours?

On my 2005 1050 the seat cowl threaded on with just removing the plastic strip from the rear of the seat body. No other modding of actual seat needed.

Well, like I said, the cowl came with nothing, and I'm waiting to hear from the stealership about that.
As far as the stock bolts in the sides fo the seat, unless the alan key is just some kind of cap covering a thread inside, they're not going to do me any good...

Photos later to clarify...

The cowl should have come with two silver bolts w/ plastic washers. I think either the black "bolts" in the side of your seats are, in fact, threaded and just appear to be only allen bolts (look at the bolt from the inside of the seat, threads should be apparent), or there's something unusual about your seat. As said by others, my cowl threads directly into those black bolts in the side of the seat.

Yes, I found out from the dealer about the screws & washers, it would seem they stiffed me...

So far as the seat bolts are concerned, it is the big black alan key bolt that goes through the seat and a nut threads onto the end of it. However, upon closer inspection, the threaded end also has a female threaded inside! Am I to assume that I should ditch the nut, flip the black bolt around so the alan key part is insided the seat and the threaded bit sticks out to receive the seat cowl screws?

Am I making *any* sense?

I'll take some photos...

Disregard!

Upon *CLOSER* inspection, the alan key slot runs right through to the female threaded bit (a hole right through the bolt). Didn't see this earlier as I was working in the evening in a dimly lit garage and the shadows made it look solid...

So, I guess once I secure the screws & washers, I'm good to go.

Thanks for your patience, folks
