Nice riding day tomorrow and no start....grrrrr

Last week the dealer had to charge the battery, i got it back and all seemed good.....tonight I tried starting it just to go for a quick ride, make sure everything's ok for tomorrow (mid 60s in forecast) and it smelled like it was flooded.....what can I do to prevent this from happening? Any tips on getting it started? it does crank fine btw. I really want to ride tomorrow!

Hopefully your not twisting the throttle before you start it. If you are, that's the problem. Start it with no throttle until it warms up a bit,

I did the first time once, but wont again.... it acted like it wanted to start but never did......I let it sit for a couple hours and didn't touch the throttle again, just cranked it and it didn't even act like it wanted to start. No start still. I'll be pissed if it doesn't start in the morning when it's time to ride.......and if it has to go back to the dealer for a second time after a week of ownership.

Something to try

Try pulling the spark plugs, cleaning them off with a toothbrush and brake clean, and reinstalling the plugs. If you have fouled the plugs, this may just be a quick way of fixing it.

****ing thing not starting so i am trying this idea..... it just sucks that it flooded so easily.....hope i don't have a headache of a bike on my hands. How in the bloody hell do I access those plugs? I have no manual, looks like the tank may need to come off......this is pissing me off.

Well I got my metric allen wrenches out to remove the seat and gas tank and clean off the plugs but couldn't get the f#*&ing seat off.....I searched all over online, found nothing. I'll let the dealer take care of it since it's a week old and has 90 miles.....I'm ready to stick this bike up that dealer's proverbial ass, this totally ruined the only nice day we had to ride this week. I really have no faith left in this thing and regret ever buying it if it floods this easily. I have to wonder if it does this when it's brand new how many times it's going to leave me stranded in the future......I sure enjoyed riding it while it lasted :/

Your problem is very unusual, and once you get it fixed, you shouldn't have a problem like that again. Insist that the dealer get it right the first time. Also, be prepared to demonstrate the problem to the dealer. I had a very intermittant idle speed problem, and it was just by luck that it occured while it was at the dealer. They sorted it, and it has been perfect since then. Good luck, and I sympathize with your frustration.

So you say that usually it's a pretty reliable bike? I love it when it runs.....but I'm beyond pissed off today, you understand why......this just shouldn't happen......90 miles and one week, I'm really fighting with myself here about whether to go there gloves off and make them take it back or to give them another shot at fixing this lemon.....I'm glad I still have old trusty Bonnie but **** I wanted to ride the S3 too. Just not a happy camper right now at all......

Jay...I sympathize with yer anger, but remember -U- flooded it by not following start up procedure( twisting the throttle ). The plugs may have been a bit "pre-fouled" by the previous flat battery attempts, so that may have contributed to the plugs now being totally fouled. The higher the performance, the less tolerant of user error or misadjustment.
I sure your dealer can get it sorted in short order for ya.
BTW, the seat latch is a real bear to get off the first few times, if you trim the stops SLIGHTLY it'll be easier...don't forget the key twists counterclockwise, then give it a good whack.

Very reliable. Well worth any initial glitches you might have to go through.
