Anyone go from Street Triple to Speed Triple? Or vice versa?

Hey Guys,

Apologies if this is posted, I have to beleive it is but my quick search didn't find it. I'm at work and my search time has to be limited so bear with me.

Just curious if anyone has gone to a Speed Triple from a Street Triple, or vice versa and the pros/cons.

I love what i hear about the low end grunt of the S3, but like how light the Street Triple is and the reviews I've read.

I just stepped down on my touring bike to a 650, and am happy with the smaller motor; I just and not sure how much I'll miss the torque of a liter bike.

I also like the cheaper price

Basically I'm looking for a daily commuter that is fun, easy to ride in traffic as well as in the country and is up for the occasional track day.

Again if this has been posted before just point me to the relavent info, I'll look more when!

No idea if your question has been posted before, but I know of at leat one person who went from Speed to Street - he's the mod on the Street forum, Diego.

I haven't made the switch - I ride the Speed, but I tested a Street before I bought and found it to be every bit as good as the reviews say.
I tested a used 955 Speed Triple then immediately tested a new (125 miles old) Street, and can say I was *very* nearly sold on it! I eventually chose the Speed for it's bigger engine and reputation. I still wonder if I'd have been as happy wih a Street

In my opinion the Street is a fantastic bike. It's very nearly as quick as the Street but lighter and more manouverable. The seat is lower and I felt more in control of it (I only passed my test 5mths before the etst rides, and it's taken me a while to get used to the height and weight of my 1050).

For a true and accurate *personal* opinion, get your own - go test them both, back to back. I'm sure a dealer will arrange that as you're bound to buy one or the other - it's not like you're comparing different manufactureres (even if you get the bike elsewhere;l just don't tell them that! )

Apologoes for blathering so much. Hope I've not confused you any more...

Hey thanks not blathering at all

I keep logging on here hoping to find more info haha, then log off when i get the boss talking to me....

I did call the 2nd closest Triumph dealer, they don't have any Streets in and are not sure when they will be; and said its basically up to the GM if I can get a test ride.

I think if i'm really sure its down to one of these bikes, I'll tell them I want a test ride and will buy one of them based on that, but hopefully i can get a test ride without commiting to buying.

I am really digging the smaller bikes lately, and think the Street may be what i end up with but we'll see my mind I'm sure will change before I'm ready to buy.

Andy is sort of correct...I went from the Speed to the Street, but not directly. I wanted one of the new Tigers last year, but couldn't have four bikes (really scary property taxes in Kansas, plus not enough room in the garage), so I reluctantly sold Speedy. I figured with the Tiger I'd at least still have the torque I loved so much from the 1050 engine.

Well, then Triumph introduced the Street, and it's more the all-purpose bike I've been wanting for many years...so, no Tiger after all.

On the one hand, I do miss being able to ride all over town and hardly ever have to shift. You have to do that more often on the Street; but on the other hand, I gained the lightness and nimbleness that I also value so highly, and have been having just as good a time doing different things. For instance, the non-adjustable suspension of the Street makes it less than ideal for the track; yet once you grow accustomed to the different feel of the bike, it is even better suited for real-world twisties, IMO.

Bottom line, I'd have to say it's a question of your priorities. Both are excellent machines, but despite their similar appearance, they are different tools for different jobs.

Smile Street or Speed

I was in a similar situation as yourself.
First bike after a couple of years out after riding an low powered geared bikes.
I was gunning for a street, went to the dealers and rode the bike, loved it although it it did lack the top end of the Japanese market, was such a big grin to ride and wheelie ( Ssssh don't tell dealer), however their was a 4month waiting list and a untested machine, well as in their were numerous recalls of various models to make me think.

so what did they have in their shop, a nice 06 Speed Triple with loads of extra add ons, low mileage for the same price.
Not new however, some else has prob farted on it but available now!

Rode it, loved it, brought it.
What a bike, so much torque!! So much fun to ride.
Initially I was perturbed by the sheer power and weight and NOISE! but

One month in and the bike gets better and better as my skill levels increase, very flickable but does need man handling to get your knee down, saying that the bike inspires confidence being solid and predictable in power and suspension, the weight disappears immediately and the noise between say 3-8000 revs is just SO good! ( and thats on stock pipes)

I know now that I have personally chosen the right bike, even under the wrong circumstances but it just goes to show that you are the one controlling the throttle and clutch so you go as fast as you want, both bikes will make you grin but only won is the right bike for you.
I think ride them both, you will know.http://www.triumphrat.net/images/icons/icon7.gif

My local dealer has lent me their Striple demop many times. On tight 2nd and 3rd gear corners it`s quicker than a Speedy, it`s lighter, quicker steering and the chassis is better. On faster corners the budget suspension wallows. It`s not as fast as a Speedy and doesn`t have the torque and isn`t as good for fooling around, pulling wheelies etc. It feels WAY slower than a Daytona 675 but I have to say, if they ever released an 'S' version of the Striple, with the Daytona 675 engine and suspension I`d buy it tomorrow!
