This problem sounds more like regulator/rectifier failure. These are a more common point of failure within a bike's battery charging system. It would be worth checking the output voltage from the rectifier - should be circa 13-15V at ~4500rpm?

Unfortunatly I don't know which wires they will be on an '03 S3; but hopefully someone will be along with an answer shortly...

Good luck.

I have the same "problems" with the suspension on my 07 S3 (few months old).
Did a trackday last friday and tried to adjust the suspension with the help of some experts. The adjustments improved the suspension a little but not enough! At the end of my trackday we concluded it needs stiffer springs (front and back) and thicker oil (front). So, in a few weeks my S3 has the suspension-quality of a superbike!!

Weird, my S3 had virtually NO preload on the rear so I couldn't get any decent suspension settings. Now I have some preload I've been able to dail in the damping a lot more and it's less harsh but still not "squishy" and I'm about 125kg with gear.

Left front brake rotor is discolored. It is a greyish color. On the freeway, going to work, had some chatter from the left caliper. Anyone had something like this happen? There is not really any change in the braking power or lever travel.

I purchased a 2006 1050 new in march 2006 i ride it to work everyday and wheely just about all the time it gets covered in crud constantly but the finish is holding up well i`ve replaced the fork seals myself and added 10w oil which is thicker and the forks are much firmer. The battery terminals kept coming loose so i fitted spring washers i had the clock assembly replaced under warranty at 4000 miles as they went kaput i fitted a k n airfilter but notice no real power increase i wanna do a single sided gp style exhaust mod but dont know what to do with the O2 sensor i`ve had no brake issues but i fitted better quality pads anyway i also notice i have a gap at the back of my seat where i notice all others sit down nice and tight to the bodywork i`m on my third set of tyres at 11000 miles but i do abuse em i love the bike and find it comfy and agile could use a bit more power tho...the dealer where i bought it has since gone skint so i now have to find another dealer for servicing and warranty issues BUT its still better than most other bikes i`ve had and that is a lot of abused bikes RIDE ON TRUMPERS

my whinge
G,day all. My only real complaint with my 07 speed triple is that they seem to run HOT! Now everyone I speak to says that's normal, but it can't be right that the thermo fan kicks in when the temp is 10oC sitting at a set of lights! My only worry is should the fan fail for any reason, and it's a hot day, I guess you're in for a long walk home. As an added aside, I see clutch cables seem to be a bit of a problem. Are they breaking where the cable comes out of it's guide down near the clutch cover. Mine was rubbing there but a bit of modification and the cable runs in the centre of the guide. So far so good, but it has only done 10000km's so see how we go.

I have an '07 1050 and the clutch cable is already showing rust on the exposed parts of the cable. Is this normal? I got a spare one just in case.

My instrument cluster is also not watertight. There is condensation and water on the inside. Still works though.

My '03 Sprint does that... I've been told it's an indication of low voltage @ start-up & that it takes a "Heat" Cycle to reset. Replaced my Battery and it quit doing it. I've also heard that there is an updated tune that remedies that

Moderator Note - I just did a housekeeping clean-up of this thread - removed a lot of posts that were just chat - nothing really wrong with them, but wanted to sanitize the thread down to just the posts containing information constrained to the sticky subject since this is a reference thread - i.e. common S3 Issues.
Thanks for understanding if your post got deleted.
