The reason for so many clutch cable failures and the recall on the clutch cable was a design problem. Surrounding the lead end that mounts into the clutch lever was a metal sleeve. This metal sleeve would work loose and rub on the cable eventually cutting the cable. The replacement cable has plastic sleeve on it and doesn't cut into the cable. Just look at the cable end at yout clutch lever. If the cable end has a silver metal sleeve on it go have it replace. My original cable lasted all off 526 miles. Triumph fixed at no cost. The dealer was going to pickup my bike at no charge, but I brought it in myself.

Quackster says, "1) Both light's being on all the time drains the battery too much

2) Battery does not hold a charge very long

3) Seat is hard

4) mirror's "

Start the engine. It's not supposed to run on the battery.
If you let the Italians make your seat, it's going to be hard.
Get bar-end mirrors, or just chuck them and don't look back.

For some odd reason my speedometer has read zero for an entire run. I have found turning the bike off and back on again fixes the problem, but it has happened twice so far and have spoken with the dealer about replacing the speedo cable under warranty and having them look the bike over.

Kuhkla,

I think your speedo problem is due to the battery not being fully charged up. My Triumph dealer advised me that when the speedo doesnt register, ride for a few miles to let the battery wake up, then turn off the engine for about 20seconds. When you you set off again the speedo should work ok. It happens mostly when you havent ridden for a few days and the battery has discharged a little.

One of my biggest problems has been the overflow drain in the fuel filler blocking up so that water leaking into it doesnt drain away, so when you open up the filler the water runs into the fuel tank. Couldnt start it for ages last week due water on the plugs. Got VERY annoyed....

annoying stuff so far:
1) triple tree bearings, klunk,klunk,klunk

2) the seat isnt tough on the cheeks, but the 'nads are takin' a beating

3) cant figure out what the little led next to the ignition switch is. it doesnt light up, so *** is it?

4) 125mph is all thats there, also ***

5) occaisionally spits coolant from what appears to be an overflow tube on the left side by the foot peg

any help from you guys is greatly appreciated, the service department isnt so big on fixes that arent spelled out by triumph, lawyers are ruling our world too.

3) The LED is for the optional alarm which flashes if fitted
4) 140 mph before I chickened out. You must have a problem.

Can't help with the others, especially with your 'nads ;-)

I guess this nice little feature has been included in the '05 S3 also. I ran into it once before and on my sunday ride my display died twice while riding. It just resets as it normally would when you turn the bike on (all the lights flash once etc.) and after that it shows no speed or engine info.

Turning the bike off and on again seems to fix it.

RODST3's explanation about low battery seems a little strange as this has only happened to me after hours of riding. Is the battery not charging properly or what gives?

At 5500 miles my "Check Engine" light came on and my cooling fan seems to have stopped working. It used to come on at 218 degrees Farenheit but when I noticed the light was on the engine temp registered 224 and no fan. :???:

Any ideas, anyone? Bike's still under warranty but it is Monday and my dealer is closed Sunday and Monday. :-x

Hello all. First post for me. For the fan not kicking on, check the fuse, always a good place to start.
The one problem with my 05 that i can't figure is my clock cannot keep time. Every time I start the bike the clock is off. One day too fast and the next day to slow.
Anyone else with the clock problem on the new one?
other than that i can't stop smiling (even laughing sometimes) about how much fun i am having on her.
Great bike.
anyone in the NH Mass area?
