Now sure if what I have is common, but these are the troubles I have had with mine.

- Overheating, radiator cap and thermostat went bad

- soft front rim dents easily

- speedo cable broke

- fan assymbly melted because triumph glues the plastic cheap fan to the housing

Yeah my temp sensor went pad too once, although it didn't cause over-heating, it would just cause the ECU to go into warm-up mode intermittently. Easily fixed though, it was the temp sensor on the left side of the block right by where you knee rests, and it's inexpensive to replace.

Burnt out two rear light bulbs in less than one year.
On my third battery.
Spewed fuel from fuel connectors.
Flash to pass switch never worked.
Cant remember which cable is slowly wearing its way through the lower triple clamp.
Exhaust leak
Lazy member of the 0 mph speedo club (I just haven't used the TuneBoy fix).
Weak horn.
Spanish Inquisition seat
Worthless mirrors.
But I wouldn't trade her for any other bike.

My clutch cable broke and I think part of the problem is where it is routed.
It goes over the top of the engine on my '98 955i and I suspect that the heat of the engine just drys the cable out!
When I fitted a new one I always pump it through with lube before fitting it and it was smooth and light for about a month but now it has now become rough as a badgers arse!

Hey ATKpilot, I don't think its luck of the draw, the S3 is basically a great bike. Speedo cable in early 01 was a recall for certain VIN numbers, my dealer caught it on service when it had a few frayed wires. Recall came six months later and affected all with cable for 6-8 months production. Gas connectors recalled and changed at dealer without a problem then I busted one trying to get the airbox open and not knowing what I was doing. (Don't work on this in the garage by the water heater, spilling lots of gas on the floor by all your bikes raises your heart rate without any pleasure. I also have had two other glitches, fork seals blew out and were not covered under warranty, (I weigh 250 and come down way too hard sometimes from wheelies, then the seals start to leak, go figure). Also the head gasket had to be replaced and I think this was from starting the bike out cold, no warm up and pulling lots of torque right away. I never thought about warm up. This is the first bike I've had with injection and it runs immediately so I was pulling the front tire up as I left my house. (Three teenage boys I feel obligated to set a bad example for). Love the bike, will never sell it, but my boys will paint over the Nuclear Red paint as soon as I die. Martin
Yes the seat sucks and I use the '99 mirrors cause they give about one inch more vision.

I picked up a new 03 last April. The only thing I have had to do is switch out the fuel fittings. Which was covered under warranty....and I have just under 18,000 miles so far. in less than 12 months. The only complaint I have is the fact that I have to stop every 120 miles or so for gas.

hey TripleTrouble what sort of problem is the brake pulsation? Is it feedback through the lever or general judder cos it may be that you have warped the disc slightly or when it was fitted it wasnt trued. If you run a really abrasive pad on the disc for a while it can help clear it a bit but you may need new discs....might just be brake chatter from a bad initial set up......drop me a mail may be able to help.

I get a clatter from the drive chain at about 3500 revs.
It clears up above that.
Not sure, but it sounds as though its the chain rattling against the swinging arm, its difficult to tell exactly where its coming from though.
I've had the bike for about 2 years and its always done this and a new chain and meticulous adjustment did nothing to quieten it.

The only problem I have ever had with mine was the fuel level sensor...

as for the "soft front rim" I would have to disargee.. I wheelie all the time.. and I am not talking little up and down wheelies.. I am talking 2nd and 3rd gear stand ups going down the highway for a mile at a time.... and I have NEVER had any problems with my Speed Triple's front rim or my RS's front rim... just my two cents
