Hi, I own the Speed Triple campaigned by the dealer Len Manchester during the 1996 Speed Triple Challenge series. I am trying to find out if any famous bum sat where mine sits now, but when I contacted the dealer they were "too busy" to help. It shows evidence of a trip to the gravel trap, so I assume that it did not have an entirely successful career. Does anyone have any info on the bike or the races or know where I might obtain same? I would be really grateful for any help whatsoever,
cheers,
Chris.

Internet searches for me have been pretty unsuccessful, I remember back in the mid 90's seeing quite a bit of stuff associated to the series - photos etc... now very little. I would be very interested in seeing a site devoted to this period of Triumphs resurgence, however I think it unlikely. Scott Zampach's bike was up for sale over here a few years back - in full race regalia - it went for $3200 as I remember. Had I gotten wind of it (ebay) before the auction finished I would have it now! Maybe if you contact Mobil themselves you could get some info, or at least be steered in the right direction, perhaps even Triumph themselves. Hislop is the name in the UK that comes to mind at present, of course there were many jockeys during the series. TTS a tuning shop in Northampton or Nottingham (?) were big into that series at the time they might be worth a call - you'll find them advertising in the UK mags for sure, or again on the internet. Any pictures of the bike at all, that would be nice to see? I'm presuming she's been converted back into road trim - but what pipe, jet work does she have. They used to blue print the engines, and tweak them in a mystical way with Pagan chants and offer up sacrifices of rare Himalayan rodentia - that I had heard from a very reliable source. The bikes were often torn down to check specs etc...at the end of races. I think the limit was 100 rwhp give or take a pony or two. Proflex shocks were the item of choice and reworked forks were the norm for sure - any peculiarities on yours by any chance? I'm sure she goes like stink, which of course is a relative term - call Len mAnchester himself and get the low down from him as well, 'too busy' my asp. If he gives you lip, go 'middle-east' on him, that's remark is just out of order in my book! Keep us posted mate! :-D

I have a triple challenge bike too!! I bought it from a friend and machinist who had bought it in turn from the guy who had raced it. He rode it once scared himself and then put it in his workshop and looked at it for years before i dusted it off..... the best modification that was done appart from the engine tweaks and the suspension is the Yoshimura race exhaust......very loud!!! Am now banned from track days at one circuit because of the noise levels, oops. If you find out any history would be very interested.

My dealer in Chicago MCC raced as part of this series. I think he made a few trips overseas. I spoke to him briefly about the experience and he said it was quite a ride. I will see him at the motorcycle show in Chicago this weekend and see if he has any information or would know where to go to find it.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I'll try to follow up a couple of your suggestions and get back to you if I get any info on the series. I've removed (and sadly, flogged) the race exhaust system - mainly because I was pulled on my first ride out! I've replaced it with standard, but the bike still goes extremely well - I understand some bikes have flat spots in the rev range, but there are none on this baby, just great poke from 1500rpm skywards. I'll see if I can find a photo or two.........

Shame you got rid of the exhaust.... they seem to be quite noise tolerant around here in the SW. Appart from my local race track where anything over 105dBa and they ban you. Oops thats me finding a new venue then......
Have heard of speeds up to 130mph and above but of course would never try such a thing....
