raising a lowered 1050

so the bike I bought was lowered about an inch for the previous owner. We are the same height and the bike feels great, but I need to raise the bike back up because I want to experiment with bars and the legs will be in the way.

Raising the forks back to stock is no problem, but what do I do with the rear ?
how will I know when I've got it back to stock setting ? must I remove it from the bike ?

What did he do to lower the rear? There aren't alot of options out there (I lowered the forks, shaved the seat and didn't even bother with the rear)....did he replace the shock?

I'm not sure, it looks like the stock shock. Is it possible to compress the shock or many some sort of adjustment to make it shorter ??? it doesn;t appear that the ass end is much taller than the front so I figure he lowered both ends

any chance of contacting the previous owner and asking him what he did? I'm thinking that he probably compressed the rear shock if it's lowered. Inspect it to see if there's any type of clamp.

If he has lowered the rear, most likely he has changed the suspension linkage "dogbones" to ones of different length. If this is the case, you will be back at stock height by changing them back to factory lenght (=sourcing stock parts).

He might have just reduced the shock preload. How many threads are visible on the shock body above the lock nut?

I`ve seen a couple of lowered ones locally, they`ve had a spacer put in the rear shock, which lowers the ride height. This is a 90% certainty what has happened to yours. I rode one and didn`t like it very much, the steering was heavier and it was harder to wheely! If this is what they`ve done to yours, you`ll need to strip the shock and take the spacer out. Not a job for the inexperienced.

While on this subject.....I'm 5'7" and can put one foot flat, the other on my toes or both feet on the balls of my feet. I've ridden my 07 like this during my 6 months of ownership, and have gotten used to it. We recently purchased an 08 Gold Wing for 2-up traveling and I'm flat-footed (feels great backing into parking spaces, unlike the S-3). I took my stock Speed Triple seat and left it at an auto/bike upholstery seat this morning to have about an inch shaved out of it. Anyone that's had theirs shaved, have you noticed much comfort difference afterwards on fairly lengthy rides ???

I found not a bit of difference in comfort after getting the seat shaved and can ride 200-300 miles with no issues. Haven't been out longer than that in one day on it.

Thanks.......that's good to hear. I ride a lot of 200-400 mile days on the Triple, and have had (2) 600+ and (1) 700+ days. I hate to lose that ability. I guess there is always a "customized" Sargent if I don't like the result.
