Hello,

I have a couple issues with my 1997 T509 that I was hoping to get some input on. First off, my idle speed seems to be slowly climbing. Right now it is at about 1500-2000 rpm. Second, there is very little compression braking. I am wondering if these are symptoms of the same problem or if I am looking at different issues. I recently replaced one of the hoses coming off of the IACV due to a hole and am wondering if replacing the valve itself is the next step. Maybe it could just use an adjustment? Any info anyone can provide would be quite helpful. Thanks!

I'm sure the lack of engine braking is due to high idle speed. The cause of the high idle speed is a little more complicated. I don't think replacing the Idle Air Control Valve should be necessary. I would either try cleaning and resetting it yourself if you feel up to it or taking it to the dealer. They have a procedure for resetting the CO adjustment that has cured several peoples idle problems.

Double check for any other vacuum leak sources too. You might want to just replace all the hoses as they are now 11 years old.
