Ducati Input

Anyone in here actually own or ever ride a Ducati S2R, 2006?

There's a dude here in San Diego that had a slow speed low side...all cosmetic damage and it runs PERFECT. I can fix the cosmetic crap myself no problem. I want another bike to kick around so I don't beat on Speedy and rack up too many miles (bought in July and have 7500 miles already). I commute to work 135 miles each day and the S2R gets about 55mpg.

This dude is scared now and just wants out. Letting the bike go for $3500 and I haven't attempted to get him lower yet. i think the cosmetic damage is about a grand, tank was scratched and rear seat cowl, engine case scraped, etc. Not sure if I'll even bother repairing it. Everything is straight (forks, wheels, frame), it's all light cosmetic scrapes. For $2500 or so if he goes that low I could care less, just thinking I can use that to commute mostly and ride it until it dies. Cool little way to get to work and not beat on my Triple.

S2R (800) or S2R 1000?

Rode 'em both, and while I think $3500 for a low mileage '06 S2R 800 is a good deal, $3500 for a S2R 1000 is an absolute steal. But realize that parts replacement could run closer to $2500 bucks or more depending on what is really screwed up and how much you want to fix. If you don't care about cosmetics, no worries.

The S2R1000 has nice acceleration but needs to have the RPM's kept high up to really get any good pop out of the engine. But that's not a problem on the track. It wuld be a blast on the track.

The 800 is a little tame by comparison to the 1000 and certainly to the S3, but if you just want a bike to thrash - go for it.

Sorry, it's an 800 and has 9,000 miles on it.

yeah, I know it will be tame compared to the S3, but I have the S3 to rocket off on when i feel like it.

Just want a cool little bike to get around on to alternate Speedy with. Always liked Monsters. For that price I can care less what happens to it, for the most part. I want to get him down to $2500 or so. The whole left side has scrapes. From the bar ends to the exhaust, all the way down the whole left side of the bike....full Arrow exhaust too, carbon so that pipe is forever scratched. Tank, side panels, engine covers, rear seat cowl, everything is scraped....but everthing is 100% functional and the bike runs perfect. Starts RIGHT up and purrrrs.

Sounds like more than $1000 worth of damage - heck, if you replace the exhaust alone that's well over a grand. But it also sounds you've made up your mind. Time to get out the check book and invest in a good torque wrench!

EDIT: Hey dude... just saw your Duck on Craigslist... better buy it quick - it won't be around very long at that price. If I lived near by, I'd grab it.

Shouldn't I ask for less than the $3500? You saw the ad, right? How did you know it was on craigs and find my area? LOL San Diego, it's a silver Duck, it has 9,000 miles though.

Nope, haven't made up my mind in the slightest yet. Still thinking.

I think $3500 sounds fair when you look at the average sale price of what an un-crashed '06 is going for. Especially if you say the motor "purrs" and there's only cosmetic damage.

You can compare the going rate prices of '06 Ducs on http://www.cycletrader.com/

Good luck.

I don't know what Monsters are worth in US$ so I can't comment on the value. But they are a cool bike! I kinda see them as a cousin to the Speed Triple, being a naked made in Europe and all.
Just think of the cosmetic damage as battle scars.

We have one, it`s my wife`s and is currently for sale on 'bikepoint.' She`s owned it from new for about 18 months, it`s a great bike. I enjoy riding it.

The bad points are...

It`s popular with women

The bike is strangulated by the cat. I`ve ridden one with Termignoni`s and the power increase is amazing..

The cat is detached from the silencers, on the mid pipe, so you can`t just get a pair of slip ons, you need a full system.

If you do put a system on it, you can`t just download a new tune, you need to purchase a chip.

It has a turning circle like a canal barge

The riding position is weird, arms slightly too wide and crouched slightly too far forward, halfway between sports and naked. The wife put genmars on, which sorted this out.

Minor service costs more than a major service on speedy.

The good points are...

Will outhandle all of the DSSA monsters, which have a habit of grounding the pipes.

It`s as light as a feather and has razor sharp steering. It will easily outride a speed triple on very tight 2nd gear twisties.

Has lots of nice standard inclusions like a hydraulic (wet) slipper clutch, immobiliser, u/s forks etc.

It`s a Ducati!
