Tool for Front Axle Removal

What size allen do I need to remove the front wheel?
So retarded that this stuff is not included in the tool kit.

2002 S3 waiting for new rubbers to be installed.

22mm allen.

I got mine from www.snapon.com that fits onto a wrench

I just saw one in a local cycle supply store that had multiple sizes on one piece.

Or, if you want to go the truly cheap b route:

(1) go to hardware store
(2) find a nut that measures 22mm across
(3) find a bolt to fit that nut
(4) weld nut to bolt
(5) new "tool" can be used with a standard socket set

Total cost: <$1

I use a 13/16th's craftsman spark plug socket turned around backwards. The hex fits in perfectly then use a regular ratchet with an extension to turn the plug wrench from the other side. Not sure if that size is the same for the older S3s though.

1050 axle is 22mm (close enough to 13/16 that that trick works) but the previous bikes are smaller. Not sure but I think 18 mm? I just use a piece of stainless steel 22 mm hex stock that we use to make oxygen sensor shells at work. I guess not everybody has chunks of that laying around?

Have an 02 S3

Copied from the S3 FAQ above, but worth repeating...

02 S3 takes a 17mm bolt, not a 22mm. Motion Pro makes a handy 4 in 1 axle tool that has the common hex sizes (17, 19, 22, 24mm). Only the cro-moly version has 4 sizes, the aluminum does not have the 17mm size. www.motionpro.com. Does the job for Speedy and my FJR.

Hi Eric - I bought mine at
Sears - Don't remember what I paid, but at least it wasn't outrageous. That Sargent seat still holding up for ya?
