Anyone install the Halcyon bar end mirrors on their S3?

I'm wondering the amount of time/work involved and if you're pleased with them.

I've got a pair of Rizoma billet bar ends on order from Jack Lilley. Pics to come when they're installed. Whoops, missed the mirror part of the bar ends, lol. Well, I'll still take pics of my Rizoma bar end mirrors with the new billet bar ends once they're on. The fitment is a bit off without a larger OD bar end at the moment.

I just put halcyon's on my t-bird.

It will be a little trouble if you have the threaded inserts inside your handlebar for bar end weights. If you do not have obstruction in your bar-ends than installation is easy. Just slide them in and tighten them down. If you do have the threaded inserts, search on the net for a guy converting napolean mirrors for the bar end weights.

The mirrors are much better quality than the ones you see on ebay for $20 a pair.

The only sort of weird thing I had was the left mirror didnt have the same angle as the right mirror. I ordered mine from Dave Quinn and he said that rarely happens and sent me out a new mirror. I figured out which mirror is wrong and will send it back. Dave Quinn is a good guy.

As far as the look. If I had the speed triple I would look at getting the rizoma mirrors the previous poster mentioned. They perform the same function as the halcyons, but have a more updated look that matches the speed triple better. Of course they are more expensive too. The halcyons will make your bars look wider, where as the rizomas angle back into the bar so they wouldn't make the bar look as wide.

I am pleased with my mirrors though. They mirror (pun intended) the classic style of my bike and they provide a good view of things other than my elbows. They mount very solidly and the mirror surface is clear. I bought some of those cheapies on ebay and they would not mount solid and the mirror surface was wavy (i think it was a platic mirror) so I never used them.

I added CRG's to my Tbird. They are a little pricey but the very best in quality and extremely neat. They work excellently too.

That on the left is a CRG, on the right is a Lockhart Philips item (2"). The latter is not really worth the trouble IMHO.

I have Ken Sean bar ends . . . see here for some pics.

They were only $17/ea from www.newbonneville.com . . .

I have to admit, they look good but the quality is so-so (but what should I expect for 17 bucks?).

They are quite easy to install. You simply remove the bar ends (unscrew the nut 3/4 of the way and then tap it in to release the barend), and then insert the mirrors and tighten. Depending on what brand you buy, you may have to trim the rubber grommet to fit the handlebar. I am still trying to locate screws to fill in the holes left by the stock mirrors. Good luck.

Dan

Dan,
Triumph do a part that will fill those holes. On the early T3 Daytonas and Trophys they had a black domed plastic plug which blanked off the mirror mounting holes in the master cylinders (as the mirrors were mounted on the firing). I don't have a part number but Great Bay were able to find me some IIRC they were very cheap.

Do you mean these from Rizoma?
http://www.motostrano-store.com/rirmi.html

Has anyone else put bar ends on a 2001 Speed Triple?

If not, can kuhlka send me pictures when installed?
Thanks!

Yeah, those are the exact mirrors I've got. I flip them out though instead of having them over or in front of my hands. I get pretty good visibility from them. Much better than the stock mirrors and having to always move around to see around my arms. I think they look pretty good and they fit really tight so I'm not constantly having to readjust them like I was with the stock mirrors.

Here are a few pics I've got. I can take more if you're looking for certain angles.
