Hard Starts

Dose anyone have problems with their S3 starting? My '05 dose not start as quickly as I would like. This is really evident when it is a warm start. It can take me up to 15 seconds to start the bike after it has just been running. This is very frustrating, especially at gas stations littered with Harley "riders". The bike runs great after it starts, and has new plugs and a clean air filter.

Sounds like the typical 05/06 ECU or tune issue. The ECU's were changed out in early to mid 2007. Try downloading a different tune at teh dealer, that sometimes helps a little.

Thats what I was afraid of...the "typical" part. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

My '07 S3 take a little longer than I'd like cold start, but not more than 4-5 seconds. I know my zx6r started quite a bit faster, but it was a smaller engine too... Warm starts don't ever seem to give me trouble.

I did however, notice some smoke/fuel smell this AM when I started my bike. Not sure I have experienced that before, but once it warmed up it was fine.

Bike's going in to the shop tomorrow anyway (warrenty tank swap), and there are a few little things I want to ask them about or have them check.

Biggest complaint (and it really is probably not an issue with the bike at all) I still have is that my fuel light still comes on between 100 and 130 miles. Most of the time I get less than 3.75 gallons in it, so that leaves another gallon reserve (about right I guess), giving me an average of 35mph. However I've heard others tell me they get in the 40's and closer to 200 miles on a tank... I want that too!! ;-)

Ridden properly, the fuel light comes on between 100 & 130.
Triumph makes other products more suited to putting around.
Glad to see you are riding your S-3 properly....

re: the hard/ long starting,
go get the latest triumph / appropriate tune loaded.
mine was the same after 6 months or so,
newest tune cleaned it up from 30-45 seconds of cranking,
to 2nd or 3rd stroke and fired....
never an issue since.

The dealer can import a new tune into my '05? Do the different tunes have numbers or names that they are identified by, or do I just ask for the most recent triumph tune?

It's typical to have hard cold starting on the older ECU's but hot starts should be right now. If it was me I'd put in a fresh set of plugs and see what happened.

I just changed the plugs two weeks ago. It didn't help. Do you think it could be one of my censors?
