how in the world?

hey guys, how do you get the instruments apart? i hopped on my bike this morning and noticed some kind of residue or fluid on the inside of the tach and speedo. i have no idea how it got there, but it also looks like it has been smeared. i was just wondering how to get the dang thing apart so i can clean it out but i didn't see an obvious way to do it. can anyone help me?

The black plastic back just pops off. Then I think it is only 1 bolt & some rubber bushings holding it to the bracket. But I don't know if you can open it up to get inside.

You need to pop the back panel off the instruments first, it is held in with two lugs that are near the top and about one inch from each side. You need to support the bike firmly, grab one side of the back panel with both hands and pull whilst wiggling it around. Be firm but patient, then it will eventually pop off. Underneath you will find the main wiring connector within a rubber sheath, this just pulls out. You can then see how to unbolt the instruments. Not sure how much further disassembly is possible as never had to do it, but this will get you started.

Would it dry out with a hairdryer maybe?
