New S3 gas mileage and fuel indicator

Knowing that my bike is new I'm expecting mileage to improve along the way.

However, my first tank was at 120 miles, and my second tank at 98 miles when the fuel indicator came on. This last time, I only was able to get 3 gallons into the tank. Does the S3 have a 4.7 gallon tank. 1.7 gallons is a lot left over and I wasn't expecting it so soon.

Otherwse with S3's have reported 140-160 miles before the light comes on, and nearly 200 before bone dry. I'm no where near that and concerned...

I haven't been riding it hard at all - in fact I stuck to the 3500rpm limit the first 100 miles, and the 5000rpm limit the next 200 (just about past that now)... I don't rev up at stop lights, and I've been easing into it.

Comments?

Your bike will get better mileage as it's broken in. Mine just hit 3200. I got it in July and I usually get around 120-140 until the fuel light is on. How many miles are on your speedy?

My light almost always goes on when there is at least 1.5 gallons in the tank. Once the light flickers it is on until you turn the bike off unlike the Suzuki I had that would flash and go out until there was about 2/3 of a gallon.

Ah - well if that's the case, then it's right in line then... Somewhat annoying, but I can live with it... ;-)

The fuel light on speedy sucks giant azz...mine comes on when there's at least 1.8 gallons left i.e. about 65 miles of good riding.

It's prob a software issue...might get solved some day by an upgrade...who knows...I've heard the Tiger has the same problem.

Hey guys-
I posted a similar issue on the Daytona forum. The low fuel light would come on after 3.6gal, with 1.9 left in the tank. To fix this I placed a 380ohm resistor in parallel across the leads of the fuel level sender. Now the light comes on after 4.5gal. PM me if you need more info

I was told by my dealer yesterday that the light should come on with about 35 miles left in the tank. This is pretty subjective as it depends on how you're riding, but (admittedly during run-in, so very low revs) I filled up, got 125 miles done without the light coming on, then filled up again and it only needed 11 litres, which is just over half a tank IIRC. The fuel economy was shown as approx 43/gal. Soon fix that - 20/Gal is far more likely when I can open the fella up...

I got 150 miles in today before the fuel light came on this time... Bike has about 650 miles on it now too - 4 or 5 tanks and it appears to be settling down...
