leaky fork seals

Alright.....Left fork seal is leaking. I'm thinking dirt/grit is in there and plan on using some camera film to shimmy up in between fork and seal and get dirt out. Anyone have any other suggestions/quick fixes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What year? I'm guessing by your screen name that it's pre-955i? If so, and warrenty isn't an option, then you're looking at new seals and dust covers.

I know of no easy fix, 'm afraid. ON the bright side, you're probably due for a fluid change anyways, and now might be a good time to upgrade the springs, if that's been on your things to do (someday).

Sorry, the bike is an '06 and is not still under warranty...so the fluid is still relatively new and the springs sure don't need to be replaced. I'm on leave right now and I'd rather not have the trip sitting forkless in my garage while i'm home and able to ride, but sh*t happens i guess. thanks for the help

If it's an '06, then it should be under warrenty. All Hinckley's have a two year warrenty.

Unless of course, you're a mad wheelier, and your local dealership knows it...or you bought the bike in August of '05.

Just trying to help, though there isn't much you can do to get around a leaky seal but replace it.

True. But the warranty also lists a bunch of items as normal wear parts and as such they are not covered. I think fork seals were included in these non-warranty parts.

Yikes...if that's the case, then that would suck arse! Replacing fork seals is a pretty time-intensive task (I've only done it on an old FZR project bike I owned).

Then again, I don't se how a fork seal would start leaking after only a years worth of usage (assuming it wasn't wheelied). I would make the claim that something else is defective and causing the seal to leak.

Either way, it sounds like a PITA.

An 06 should be still under Warranty and fork seals should be covered. Seals are not usual wear and tear in two years. Have your dealer fix it unless we are not getting the hole story, U Wheelie Monster U,

Aaahhh...the truth comes out!

In any case, sucks to hear. Personally, I'd go ahead and withhold that little bit of information and see if you can still get it covered under warranty. Of course, I'll deny I said anything in a court of law.
