Ignition Switch causing rear electrics to go out

anyone heard of this? i've FINALLY tracked the problem to a faulty ignition switch. has anyone else had all of their lights on the rear of their bikes go out because of the ignition switch? and if so, what did you do to solve the problem? i dont want to take it in to the shop so what are my options? thanks.

had the same problem with mine. The dealer fixed it under warenty. The ignition switch comes as a complete lock set and is a bit pricey. Mine was actually the wires that come out of the bottom of the switch, which were pinched bu an overtight wire tie. It only took 2 trips to the dealer and finaly leaving it for 3 weeks to fix it.

yes...

this is what i am afraid of. unfortunately, my bike is out of warranty. i might just have to order an aftermarket ignition switch and rig it under the seat or frame or something. not looking forward to it.

Best check the easy things first before taking it to the shop for a fix.

Like said above, check points where wires are ziptied together for worn through wires. Another common place where wire problems start is the bundle of wires that is clamped to the right side of the steering head. The wires inside the black cover can wear through and start shorting to the frame or on each other.

Have you checked the wires that go to the switch with a multimeter?

no, not yet. but when i wiggle the wires going into the ignition switch, the rear lights come on, but then usually go back off after a bit. i'll try inspecting the wires first to see if they are shorting out. great idea.
