Question Best Dealer in the NY/NJ metro area?

If you read my thread yesterday, you'll know my motorcycle is damage from my first accident. Which dealership is the best in the NYC area to go to? Any feedback on Ducati/Triumph of Soho? Thanks.

I hear nothing but negative commentary about the dealer in SoHo/Tribeca, hopefully some resident can chime in with some thoughts and an alternative. Herd decent things about some of the dealers in the surrounding New Jersey area though.

Servicing a bike at Ducati/Triumph Soho takes a looong time (several weeks to get an appointment), and this is definitely not a place to go to get a good deal (I was a regular customer there before buying my '07 S3, and they gave me the worst-possible quote for a new S3). I've bought my S3 at Jack Trebour Motorcycles in Ledgewood, NJ (and saved about $1000 comparing to the Soho dealer). It's a little far from the city (about an hour), but the service/price is correct. Also, if you're good at maps/navigation and not in a hurry, there are some nice roads to go to Jack's (i.e. knee-sliders-approved roads).
I don't like Gold Coast in New Hyde Park, LI. No fun at all to ride over there, LIE, BQE... I'm sure you see what I mean... And the service sucks.
Otherwise I've heard some good opinions on the Triumph dealers at Bear Mountain, NY and in Freehold, NJ.
Good luck with your repair.

Thanks for the replies, wish I could ride the nice roads to dealership suggested. Any other good dealerships near the city?

What about indy shops? Brooklyn Bike Works? Motorgrrl?

Freehold Honda / Triumph in Freehold, NJ has always been a great dealership, with an excellent service department.

My NY/NJ Triumph Delaer Review

Here's my Triumph Dealer experience for the NY/NJ area over the past three years:

A new Triumph dealer is starting up on September 15th in Suffren, NY, just over the NJ border - Triumph of Rockland. I obviously have no experience with them yet, but they will be one of the closest dudes outside the city. Worth checking out.

Soho/NYC Triumph - They have a great selection of gear & bikes and a nice new store. But in my limited experience with them, I occasionally got the feeling they don't always know what's going on under their own roof and some of the staff (not all) can be somewhat disorganized. Also, if they tell you that you can return something, make sure you realize that they will only give you store credit. My wife was burned by them on that one - but it was cool in the end, I just used the credit to buy other stuff.

Rockwell Cycles in Fort Montgomery, NY on 9W just North of the Bear Mountain Bridge seem cool. A bit of an old school shop and a Vanson leather dealer. Marian there has been very helpful over the phone with me recently. Nick handles service.

Freehold Triumph were very cool helping to look at/attempt to fix a leaking master brake cylinder problem I had during a ride a couple of summers back. I pulled onto their lot out of the blue, they helped me right away. No charge.

That said, since I live in northern NJ, I bring my bikes to Jack Trebor Triumph in Ledgewood. Just purchased my 1050 S3 from them in March for a good price. Joe in service there has been pretty massively booked up lately, but he is a GREAT mechanic and I never seem to have a problem getting my bikes serviced and serviced quickly, usually while I wait. I really like him and trust him, which is all anyone really wants from a service dept. Tyler is cool and handles parts.

Honestly, I really haven't had any hugely negative experiences with any dealers in the area. But I tend to have a pretty easy-going attitude and am a bit flexible when it comes to ordering parts or getting my bikes serviced. If you are a bit more of a demanding type, your mileage may vary.
Hope this helps,
Chris
