Fast Bikes magazine

Anybody been reading Fast Bikes magazine recently? (it's a UK mag). One of the blokes in the mag has an S3 as a longtermer with monthly reports on the bike, mods done to it, etc. This month, he fitted an M4 end can and claimed increases of almost 10 horsepower and !0 Nm torque over the entire rev range! He's claiming it now puts out nigh on 130 bhp. Is this possible, just with an end can?!! There is no mention of a freer flowing filter or Power Commander.

Sounds a bit ambitious to me! They`re normally about 111 at the rear wheel, going up about 115 with a can. I met a guy at the Port Macquarie rally the other week that had a seriously 'worked' 1050 with cans, power stacks (velocity stacks) and several other mods which was just about making 130 at the rear wheel. I rode his bike and it was significantly faster and torquier than mine, which has the TORS cans and tune. If you check out thespeedtriple.com and look at all the work 'devious' has done to get similar HP, you`ll see that it`s unlikely to be something that you can get from just a slip-on. Perhaps he`s talking about crank Hp???

Awesome, biggest triumph rally in the world. 46 Rocket 3`s in attendance but sadly only 8 speed triples.

Check out the ratbags forum for more details, address is on the 'Australian RAT forum' on here.

Perhaps that also took into account custom mapping via dyno tuning and an air filter? The stock tunes tend to be fairly conservative. It isn't unheard of the gain 10hp in ONE part of the rev range. I gained around 8hp around 4500 rpm last time I had my bike tuned. The top end stayed about the same, but doing some ignition advance helped the mid range. On that same note though I lost some power after the Zard system in the low-end.

I have about 10hp over stock with cans and custom tune (+K&N). On the other hand it was not 120hp to start with. Now I have 121,8hp and 102.5Nm at the wheel.

What can is that with and when you say tuned is that just a tune or Power Commander'd?

Cheers,

Neil

I WILL be there on Keeley (S3) next year Rob. Just need to make sure I get some accommodation early enough!

Glad you and the boys had a good time.

Harris has a custom made exhaust and all tuning was done via Tuneboy. I also have gained a good 12hp and 7 ftlbs of torque at the rear wheel with slipon, pre-cat removal from header, K & N filter, and proper tuning via Tuneboy. But as Harris mentioned, my stock # definitely wasn't no 120hp to start with, mine was 110 bone stock.

I have the M4 can and although I love the look my "seat of the pants" feel tells me I've lost a smidgeon of torque, I've admittedly not had my bike dynoed to confirm or debunk my assumptions. The bike does noticeably rev quicker up to the limiter. I have the TOR tune so I don't know if that makes any difference.
