Very interested. Rider modes/Ride by wire but it does not specify if it has cruise. I tried to see a glimpse of it on the switch gear during the video but cannot determine it.

Hey the new S3s look great. Not sure how much the different modes are needed but I guess its one way they can keep up with the crowd, until they get serious about addressing the power to a further degree.

I wonder how much all these new toys will cost for admission and if it enough to trade up?

except the exhaust, I love everything there. And I expect wet weight ~200-210kg...should be fair. no?
I hope my sc project dual exhuast will fit into the new S3. that will be one of those silly reason I will sell to myself to push for the buy. :D
same time want to wait till 2017, so they smoke out all the issues with new model during next year.

I really like it actually. I was a little on the fence but I feel like they took the time to make some decent improvements and aren't getting sucked into the horsepower war. 200 hp is great, but 140 for this bike is more than enough. Hopefully the cost increase isn't too terrible as a result of everything.

Hey, me too! Actually I'd be thrilled with just one of the new S3s and a Thruxton. Well, actually I can't complain, because I already have a 2012 Thruxton and a triple too ('96 Trident 900). Maybe I'll "upgrade" in a few years....
Really love the new looks of the new S3, though. I do like the new headlights & mini fairing. I think the shape of the new tank is really great, too. And I agree with some of the other posts, this bike really does have plenty of power & torque, I think the emphasis is on being a great handling overall bike. I test rode one this spring, really a great riding machine!

Growing on me it is..................

I emailed my guy at the Triumph dealer to see if he has a clue as to when a 2016 Speed Triple R -- Matte Graphite will be available. The more and more I look at the pics of the new bike the more and more I am willing to settle for ~140hp. After owning my 2011 for almost 4 years I know how much I love the 1050 engine for all around use. This new motor fascinates me because they did some things to the top end and also with the ride-by-wire I am thinking it will be a stout devil and smooth as hell. The new S3 is supposed to even get better mileage!! If I want scary--almost crap my pants fast--I will go out and ring my S1000XR's neck!!!

I am waiting to see if Ducati has a > 1000cc Street Fighter for 2016. The big revealing is on Monday.

The Superduke 1290 is still on my short list but I think the Speed Triple yanks my crank more in several ways.

God I wish these bike were in stores now to look at!!!

Maybe as motorcyclists we're all a bit cracked in the head. But it still blows my mind that this new Speedy, at 140hp, and on the high end, 450lbs. ?? Has a HP to weight ratio greater than a Bugatti Veyron SuperSport!! AND IT'S MIDDLE OF THE ROAD FOR POWER!!
I got in to bikes because I can't afford my dream car(Corvette Z06) and fair enough to say, I'm glad I'm middle class. Sub 5 second 0-60 times used to be a target for cars. Out the door street bikes for $14k are well in to the sub 3 second range, if not low 2's. Just crazy. In a good way?
Also, the baseline HP #'s for triples never phase me, it's the flat torque curve and instant power in any gear that sells it. You can be puttering along in 3rd at 3,500 and twist and go. That's the trade off. Excited to see one in person. :)

There's nothing there to make 11-15 owners regret their purchase imo, Triumph needed to go rbw and add cruise control but ride modes on an engine as predictable as the 1050 seems like marketing to me. I'll keep my 2013 SE(unless I can trade it for a R3R).

No, I just know 112 ft. lbs or torque is not possible. So now we see it is in Newtons.

It looks like about a 6 ft. lb of torque increase which if it happens in the low midrange should be a nice boost.
Just did some research and I don't its that much of an increase. I see mixed numbers out there.

The price is around $15,500 for the S... ouch.

Wasn't able to edit that last post so I'll go on to say, he was a Triumph rep. He just returned from watching them being made at the factory. He knows all the specs because he works for Triumph.
It's not rumor or a boast. The new Speed Triples have a new 1050 engine with 112 foot pounds of torque.

No one is doubting what he said but I would think the qualifier was quite possibly misquoted: 112 Newton-Meters is entirely reasonable with a modest increase over current 1050 Speed Motors.

That puts it in the 82 - 83 FT-LBs area.

If they have 112 FT-LBs I will put a down payment tomorrow!!!

Hmmm, interesting. If it is indeed 112 Newton-Meters (or 82 ft-lbs) of torque, that's exactly the same number that Triumph is quoting for the new 1200 twins. They even showed it on a graph (comparing new Thruxton torque to current Thruxton, see attached photo). That would also be just the same as the current S3, so no increase at all. Maybe it's just spread a bit wider? It would be cool if the S3 could top the 1200 motor in the torque department. Guess we will know soon enough.

Should be a interesting bike with 112 ft pounds of tourque. Doubt if they would have gone to the trouble to add 5 rider modes and traction control with it having the same power output.
Just have to wait and see.
One disappointment was hearing the air intake as seen in the fairing is fake.

112 ft/lbs would be a 20% increase in power and i'm not calling you a liar either, I just think a motor that turns 9800 rpm would show more than 5 hp gain for a 30 ft/lb increase in torque. Cruisers have the high torque low HP because they run at low rpm, if the s3 added 30 lbs at 5252 rpm the hp would be a lot higher. The RBW and traction controls will be useful when/if triumph turns the s3 into a superstandard. they will need to add wheelie control too by then.

Well, I checked back with the dealer today on my 112 ft pound claim. (Well not my claim but the Triumph rep.)
Checking with the dealers Triumph website, triumphs info shows the engine develops 112 neuton meters of tourque and not foot pounds.
It is a increase but not as much as the rep indicated.
The good news was the torque curve is improved everywhere on the rev range. Looked impressively better.
Triumph also claims a increase in power but not posting that number yet.
So, to the ones I got indignant with I apologize. I was wrong.

Wonder just how thoroughly the Triumph team will have de-bugged the new S3? Think I'll let others form an orderly queue and become the unpaid test pilots for this new machine - can only imagine the new electro-trickery will prove problematic and don't see Triumph having any plans to extend the 2 year guarantee in the UK.

Good point.. The new S3 is tempting but there could be a few bugs to work out, like a much higher price too?

I do enjoy my 2011 S3 so the carrot has to be very tasty for me to bite.

Plus I am going to drop a few bucks for my 24k service which drops my investment even more for a trade.

Rumors are that the 2017 will be the one for what we are all looking for, big power increase?

The ride by wire and ECU mapping wiz bang stuff is "probably" based on the existing hardware and code for the Tiger line ups. But, regardless, there is nothing wrong with waiting a year if you are in no hurry. My conservative side says wait one year but my "other" little voice says take the chance and get the bike when they hit the streets because the issues will probably only be minor.
Just knowing that this bike will be amazing makes that little voice pretty loud. I base this notion on the fact that my 2011 base model with its clunky tranny, so-so fueling and semi decent suspension has served me very very VERY well. With the list of improvements and just looking at how well Triumph has done on their Tiger line up, it is a very safe bet that this bike will be a winner.

I was very close to pulling the trigger on a Superduke or S1000R..... until Triumph announced the 2016.

Gonna wait until they get here and Ch Ch Check 'em out!!!!

I really like the headlights too. Which will make it just a little harder for me to tear them off and do the Motodemic single headlight mod!!
If.......I get the 2016 that is! Typical me, I have several mods already planned for a bike I do not even have.

It's not the same motor. It's been redesigned with new Pistons, head, crank, and according to Triumph a lower center of gravity.
The output is different.
It's obviously an improvement but likely I won't trade up soon. The 2013 works quite well enough, besides its paid for.
