New convert from R1

Just chiming in to say "hello." I traded in my '03 R1 on Monday for a 2007 black Speed Triple and couldn't be happier. I relocated from Florida back to NE PA a few months ago, and the combination of a couple of old injuries and much rougher roads made every ride a new lesson in pain. I researched multiple bikes for about 3 months and decided on the S3. The ride home from the dealer was a real eye-opener. The handling on this machine is unbelieveable. It weighs 50 lbs more than my R1 did, but feels like it weighs 50 lbs less. I felt like I had been riding this machine for a long time; my first ride on it and my confidence in the corners was very high. If the S3 is as problem free as my previous two Yamahas I may have found my dream bike. Even my boys love it.

See you have already bobbed some of the plastic from your rear fender.
Done the same, and thinking about my options to remove the rest.
Yea, I share your excitment on this bike.
Came off a Yamaha FZ-1 and the S3 handles so much lot better and feels 100 pounds lighter.
I have also changed my thoughts on bikes w/ small fairings.
The Triumph is so much nicer to ride without the wind buffeting that I got with the Yamaha.

The R1 is a great bike to ride around a race track.

The Speed Triple is a great bike to ride everywhere. :

The R1 felt heavier? I never would have guessed that.

i "borrowed" an R1 for several months before the s3. i have neck/back injuries as well that simply means i can't have a crotchrocket as my ONLY bike. i knew that a long time ago though. anyway, i borrowed it cuz i sold off an SV and got screwed over by a local dealer (insert chicago cycle center here) so was in between bikes. was lookin at the sv1000, duc s4, etc. the R1 is fun, just can't be the only bike. anyway, i love the s3. cheers to the new bike!

Congradulations on the new bike and Welcome.

My girl Diesel (boxer-lab) loves my triple too. She gets all excited when she hears me round the turn into our neighborhood a few blocks away.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised with the lack of buffeting on the S3 myself. Having nothing to break the wind I was expecting the opposite.
