Matt Black Triple - dodgy paint? :(
Having had my lurvely matt black triple for about 2 weeks now, I decided it was time for a clean at the weekend.

Using water, a dribbling hose, and muc-off I washed the bike. Rinsed it off....and....

OMG

The paint looks all patchy and faded. Worse on the tank, but similar effect on the front cowl too.

Has anyone else had issues with the paint on the matt black triple?

Those of you that have them, what have you used for cleaning?

I've told the dealer, who is going to phone triumph, so I fully expect it to be sorted under warranty if it's a paint problem.

Did you use a degreaser?
I have had no probs with my paint so far but I'm staying away from degreasers since I've heard they can do exactly what happened to you.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted under warranty.

What he said! I only use a little bit of car shampoo type ****, water and a sponge.

My dealer printed off a care of matt paint finishes from Triumph. General gist of it is:

"Matt paint is very durable and performs as well as, if not marginally better, than traditional gloss paint finishes. If a panel sustains damage, such as a scratch, the damage cannot easily be invisibly repaired or polished out, meaning the panel will need to be replaced. Any attempt to polish out a scratch will result in producing a local "shiny" area which will stand out from the rest of the finish on the panel."

"Matt paintwork requires no greater cleaning care than that already recommended for high gloss paintwork. Use of clean sponges and auto recommended shampoo provide best results. Grease marks are common on matt paintwork and are mainly the result of contact with fingers. Such marks can be removed by using a mild solvent or degreaser and a soft dirt free cloth. Care should be taken not to apply too much force during application to avoid creating a polished spot."
