Rizoma Billet Grips

Anyone have the time or inclination to do a little write up on installing a new throttle grip?

of all the bikes I've had... I've never removed the grips and never had to re-install the throttle grip stuff.

I'm sure can figure it out, just thought I'd probe the experience of others prior to making potential mistakes.

thanks.

The throttle side is easy to remove & replace as it just bolts on with the cable actuator clamp. Push back the rubber sleeve over the cable(s) exit, loosen up the screws & split the clamp, then disengage the cable nipple from the gear & slide off the throttle tube/grip. The new Rizoma comes with a couple of different gears, so just pick the one that matches your original & reverse the process.
The left side is a little more awkward on the removal side. My rubber grip was never going back, so I just took a Stanley knife & sliced it down the length & slipped it off. If you want to save it, then you need to work at getting it off. Try a long thin blade screwdriver worked around between the grip & the bar if you can get it in there. Or if you remove the whole bar, dip that end in a bucket of hot water & that should help to make it more pliable.
Fitting the new one is much more simple - just slip it on & tighten the two little set screws.

The thin long screwdriver works wonders. I also spray a wee bit of wd-40 or whatnot in between the grip and the bar once the screw driver is in there. Have the red tube on the lube allows you to get it in deep. Once the grip is freed it slides right off. Don't use a ton of lube if you are planning on putting the grips right back on. Hairspray works as an awesome brief lube/quick light adhesive too.

I had to take my stock grip off when fitting my new bars this weekend. Use an inflation needle (Like you use for sports equipment) and screw it into the tip of a blow gun you can plug into your air compressor. Stick the needle under the grip and hit the trigger. Move it around the circumference of the grip and slide the grip off the bar. Takes like 2 minutes and is far easier than anything else!

I use my air compressor for removing and installing grips all the time. Works like a champ!
