Purchased my first Triumph last Friday a 2003 Speed Triple. Put 350 miles on it over the weekend and I love it. For twenty years I have owned nothing but Japanese sport bikes and I deliberated over the decision of what my next bike would be for quite sometime. I decided it was time for a change and it came down to the Ducati S4R and the Triumph, I have spent many hours reading this forum and obtained some very practical and useful information concerning the bike, performance, mods, etc. and that helped me in coming to a decision between the two. That and the fact that the Triumph is just one really cool looking machine. Anyway, love the Speed Triple and I dare say that I have been converted and born again into the holy trinity that is the speed triple- performance, looks and attitude.
Great site and thanks to all for taking the time to post opinions, reviews and information.

Welcome

I did the same move 2 months ago. Came from a 2005 CBR1000rr (with several super bikes over the years) with approximately 24 track days on my CBR alone. Deliberated for months over the S3 and kicked myself in the butt for not doing it sooner.

You will miss the insane horsepower and rocket blast offs, but the S3 more than makes up for it in style, class, handling and torque. Nothing like it. Honestly, it took me a month or so to get used to it and put the super bike programming out of my head and muscle memory...LOL....but now I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A wise choice.

I have noticed a significant difference in riding. It is a much different ride than the cbrs and gsxrs I have had in the past. I do not have a lot of dirt bike experience but, it feels more like that type of riding style and handling. More to do with the amount of pressure applied on the handlebars than shifting body weight, plus the center of gravity feels higher on the speed triple. I did take a corner and was a little startled as to how quickly it responded and how short I cut the corner by riding the way I usually did on my previous bikes. I can relate to you saying that you had to relearn how to ride in a sense. I will have to practice a little patience and learn the bikes characteristics before I put the sliders back on again.

Decisions

It was a toss up between the Speed Triple 1050 & the Duke S2R
The Triple won & there are no regrets
Your end result confirms the thoughts that I had
Time to give the Rising Sun machines a well deserved rest ?
Good riding
