Best Oil to use?

Hi all;

Trying to figure out what would be the best oil to put in my S3. Currently I am using 10W40 Mobile1 full synthetic. Anyone have any preferences? If so, why? Also, any reason why I shouldn't use 10W40?

On a side note, what do you all use to take the oil filter off/on with? The way it sits up into the pan, its a pain to get ahold of... I am thinking the filter wrench that uses a rubber strap. Ideas?

Thanks....

You are a new person I see....so I'll do you a favor and HIGHLY recommend using the "SEARCH" feature on this webiste. The oil issue has been BEATEN to death even mr. Death himself is dead....4 times over. You'll find so many threads and HOURS and HOURS of reading on oil.

15w50 full synthetic, 10w40 doesn't coat parts as well for 'abusive' riding, & Oil Filter socket.

If you don't know what a oil filter socket wrench looks like. Get a shop manual and RTFM.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again! Crisco oil is the only way to go.

Very true, Cheap! BUT...make sure you use the Crisco WITH the trans-fat...it coats better. especially that flesh piston you crank your pappy with. Hick.

I use Triumph labeled Mobil 1 15w/50 because I have 5 gallons of it sitting in my garage that I bought "cheap". It is good oil, but is pricey even by 15w/50 full synthetic motorcycle oil standards.

If you are particular about using "motorcycle specific" oil, then any of the full synthetic brands will fit your bill--depending on how much you want to pay.

Some will say use car oil, and others say avoid it due to friction modifiers, clutch slippage, and a variety of other reasons--real and imagined. I'm not going to go there.

As far as an oil filter wrench goes, you only need it to remove the filter--so nothing fancy is really necessary as long as it gets the filter off. I use an old flat honda filter wrench that fits the base of the filter.

Welcome, and enjoy your bike!

KAH24,
Thanks for being ONE person who actually had something worthwile to say.

OH.. BTW, when the search function comes up with '0' items, its time to stop lipping off about how to use it.
