Rizoma / Triumph fat bar alternative.

Here are a couple pictures of my Pro Taper install on my 07 Speedy.

I went with the Pro Tapers for a few reasons, most of which is I knew the bend since I have ridden it before. The stock bars had too much sweep for me, so it was hard to keep my weight forward since my elbows tended to tuck into my sides keeping me further back. I tried looking up some of the bend info for the Rizoma's and Triumphs but in the end the Pro Taper web site has much more info and they are in stock at my local cycle gear. Not to mention they are a lot cheaper! I'm happy with the end product but I did have to make a couple parts to make everything work. I ended up making a spacer for the hole where the stock riser sits in the top clamp; I also had to shape a shorter bolt to work with the Pro Taper risers since the supplied hardware was too long for speedy's top clamp. This really wasn't a big deal, but I like to do this type of stuff. If you don't want to mess with it just order the Rizoma conical risers and bolt up your 1-1/8 bar of choice. However if you order them form PJ's they are $91 US, that's what my bars and adapters cost together.

What bend are those? I have a set of Carmichael bend pro tapers that I've never installed on my RM 125. I was thinking of putting a set of Tag metals bars on my 07 S3, But the're almost a blue and the Pro tapers are black....I'm torn

They are the Carmichael bend. The Henry/Reed has more sweep and is closer to stock.

Looks good!

Did you end up drilling holds to support the nubs on the signal controls, or were they already pre drilled? When I upgrade my bars, I've been debating what to do (drill, or remove the nubs and apply friction tape).

I used a drum sanding bit on my dremel and took the nubs off. The screws alone have plenty of holding power for the light plastic switch housings. I actually have a few turns left so I can continue to tighten them up as time goes on if I need too.

Figured that would be a safe bet, though a few wraps of friction tape wouldn't hurt either. I recall seeing on the TBS forums a post by a guy who created some sort of template for drilling the holes on his replacement bars. Didn't look to be easy to find a point of reference, though.

Another silly question, but what are the numbered markers on the bars near the risers? Rizoma's have them also. I suspect it indicates how the bars are aligned in the riser clamps?

Sorry, another question: what riser (looks like powertap, or something) are those and do you know their height?

Pro Taper bars, Pro Taper risers. I don't know the height off hand, but I'd say they are 3-5mm lower then stock when installed on the bike.

The marks give you a point of reference for center and angle up an down. The little squares let you center, the numbers help you figure out angle
