Suction in tank - Sometimes

Ok, I'm a bit confused. Generally I don't have the "Suction in Tank" problem. But recently, my Low Fuel light has come on, and when I get to the gas station and open up the tank, I hear the loud suction noise.

BUT...

After I do a fill up, I opened up the tank to check for 3 days in a row and NO suction...

What's going on?

I have my first 500 mi service setup with the dealer next Wed... Are my lines reversed or not???

PS: I've also dropped the bike at very very slow speeds on both sides, once each. After this the suction started occuring infrequently.

There's a check valve down near the end of the breather tube (look down by the kickstand, maybe around the clutch cover - it's a bulbous thing) that is supposed to shut if the bike tips. However, it sometimes sticks. You get vacuum in the tank when it's stuck closed. If it opens, you'll get no vacuum. Yours is probably sticking intermittently.

Most folks just take it off. I did. No more suction.

Or you can zip tie it to one of the other tubes so it stays upright.

Wouldn't it dribble gas when it's laying on it's side then? He already dropped it twice in 500 miles...ouch!

Mine stuck, and the dealer took it off.

I drive 90% of the time in San Fran traffic, and with all the potholes, electric buses you can't hear, ppl and traffic, I'm glad she's doing this good.

Both times I had to SLAM on my breaks and it just seems like the bike wants to tip when I do that.

No biggie, just some small scuffs on the clutch, oil cover. I like the hooigan looks, not into the pretty boy super shiny weekend rider look.

Filled up with fuel last night and had trouble getting the fuel cap open ( loads of suction). After a nice long ride to work I checked again today, yep same thing happened. It looks like my little valve thingy has stuck. Does it harm the bike in any way by removing the valve or invalidate any warranties? Only had the Triple 9 months but clocked nearly 4k, first time this has happened.

I had the same problem, and my dealer removed the valve, so I suspect it wouldn't effect the warranty.

First of all, there seems to be a LOT of new S3 owners in here. So I'll take the time to say that not ONLY does this valve "stick" from time to time but it is VERY COMMON for the two hoses under the tank to be swapped from set up. before you go chucking your little valves swap the lines under the tank.

There's:
1) Quick disconnect for fuel line..NOT this one
2) Electrical connection..NOT this one
3) Two rubber hoses that slide over a little pipe with no clamps. Switch those around. Meaning, take one off and put it on the place where the other one is.

Again, this is very common. If you STILL have suction from tank when cap is opened THEN your valve is crap.

And NO, you don't NEED the valve.

I also had this 'super suction' problem with I first got the bike. My hoses were installed correctly but when I ran my hand down to the end of them, one of them was completely crimped shut. I straightened the hose out and problem solved.
