UK to French Alps 1 (pics)

First few days were just motorways and fast roads in order to get down to the Alps, so not very enjoyable. View from the Millau bridge was fantastic though.

Forest fires forced a change of our route.

My lucky mascot 'Sheeps' enjoying the view.

Some of the hairpins we encountered. Easier going up than coming down.

Continued...

Looks like fog ahead. Our road enters it on the right.

Going down to Val d'Isere. Zig-zag lines on mountains are the main roads.

At the top of the highst paved road in Europe.

Posed shot for the camera.

Beautiful! Have not been there for many years -your pics brought back some good memories. I am surprised there was no snow up there. Looks like fun.

Not much to stop you going over the edge.

More twisties.

What a fantastic trip, I'd recommend anyone going. There are camp sites everywhere and they're cheap with hot showers included and you don't need to book in advance. Make sure everyone knows the destination of the day and have each others phone numbers, in case you get seperated, as I did, twice! Once in the middle of a Swiss city, and then on the Belguim motorway during rush hour in the pissing rain. It's easy to laugh afterwards. I took about 150 pics but I could have taken twice that. If you take a pic of every great view then you'd never have time to enjoy all the biking.

Wonderful pics

Thanks for sharing these with us. I worked in Paris for a few months in 2002 and went skiing at Val d'Isere. Wish I had had a bike over there.

I have flown sailplanes over a lot of the easterm edge of the alps from Savoy up to Mont Blanc and Chamonix. A favourite part of the world - must get back. Thanks again for the great travelogue.
