A short ride report here:
Ride Report

I'll try and take a pic of the bike before I wash her tomorrow..... She looks a little worse for wear at the moment, almost in camouflage :-)

How'd you go with the pics mate? You've got me curious...

Actually, I'm more curious about how you go riding speedy on dirt/mud? You change the boots for that sorta riding or anything?

Maybe I just haven't been riding long enough, but without knobbies I woulda thought dirt was a big no-no... I had the tail step out on me last week with a tiny bit of mud on the road as I took off!

THere's no problem riding on dirt at with road tyres. You just treat the dirt a bit like a wet road ie. hang loose, anticipate and do things smoothly. The only other thing is to allow the bike to move around under you a bit and if the dirt is technical i.e. deep wheel ruts, very stony/rocky you may want to stand up on the pegs and help the suspension and balance. It's very like doing car park riding, tight turns, slow speed and use your body to help balance the bike.

On the mud is a different thing, especially good ole aussie clay. When wet this stuff is both ***** and slippery. Wheel ruts aren't deep but are even slipperier at times. All you do is keep it slow, even and smooth throttle and hope you don't dump it :-) Slippery dirt or mud is like ice except you can see it so it's good training for winter riding :-D

The causeway we did was about 60ft long followed by another 10ft of further water over the road. First gear about 3500-4000 RPM, slip the clutch, get some momentum and no matter what the bike does beneath you keep it upright and moving forward. If you decide to do a difficult piece of terrain or water or whatever, you just have to commit to it and do it. Second thoughts will mean you'll come unstuck :-) Obviously that doesn't mean blindly go through water that you don't know how deep it is. That's why I let Steve go first :-D

I've had the Sprint and the S3 up to 120kph on dry dirt no probs, the old TDM900 up to 160kph on the road from Sandy Hollow to Bylong. All on road tyres.

Here's some pics of the poor wee beastie before I washed her:

OK mate, I'll have to take your word for it - at least for a while... I'm still learning how to launch this thing quickly without the front wheel trying to slap me in the face,.. by the time I have that mastered maybe I'll be confident enough to give dirt ago

Thanks heaps for the explanation, I like to sponge that stuff up and challenge myself to ride better - I'm still pretty early on in this game.

***** grubby speedy you've got there,.. needs you to wipe it's ass!

I've spotted the tank guard you've got - is that white or clear? Been meaning to get one, but avoided the CF Triumph part - would break up that nice shiny white tank... not that I've done a good job of keeping mine shiny, but I can see I'm not alone

Cheers!

Mate if you can do wheelies you're at least one up on me. It's one of the things I've not learnt yet :-)

Yes, this is a clear tank guard. It has started to discolour a bit and I bought a tankslapper non-adhesive guard - which I've put on the knee guards but not the main one yet (was waiting for this one to age a bit). The tankslapper seems a good system about AUS$28-29 delivered from the US and it has left & right side protectors for the knees as well as the central tank protector.

Yes, speedy got a good cleaning yesterday after Sat's workout, and then riding to work this morning I was caught in that torrential rain and it looks like it's here for another few days

The rego label holder looks like it could in some circumstances accidentally swing over and hide the number plate ........
But no, I must be mistaken! LOL

What ever gave you that idea???? It's not a rego holder, that's my tollroad pass :-) It works well, I've not received a fine in 5 months of use.

How'd you go cleaning up that BeEm - specially after giving those GS1200's a scare :-)
I filled up today on the way to work 15.8l for 285km so I got a good 18km/l, almost 51mpg - not bad, hauling my bulk around :-)

Mind you through the run down and the dirt I dropped that to 48mpg or 17km/l. I guess we were up and down the gear box a bit more on the dirt
