G'day Folks,..

Total. Newbie. Question..??

I've seen parked bikes that have the rider's helmet fixed to the side, presumably locked... I've never been sure exactly how they're connected there...

Now, sometimes I'd like to have the option of locking my helmet to the S3 so I don't have to lug it around... is there a particular way people do this, can it be done on the S3, etc? Is the strap fixed under the seat or something?

I walked into a bike shop and figured I'd ask for some sort of helmet lock and it was suggested I buy a security cable and use a simple padlock, but leashing it with a cable is a pain (it just hangs wherever it feels like) so can anyone suggest anything better?

Have also seen the odd bike or two with a spare helmet fixed to the side as it's being ridden - what gives?

I just use a little cable lock (actually a gun lock that our Police Dept gave out) and run the cable through the d-ring on my helmet and then through the centre of the bars between the riser clamps, and the helmet sits on the tank.
I don't see the point of hanging a helmet anywhere when the bike is moving, never figured that one out (unless it's a spare helmet, then I'd have to, I guess).
Cheers
Barry

The only options I'm aware of are:

License plate frame w/ helmet locks, such as this Helmet Guardian

or...

A Bar-end Helmet lock, such as this Bar End lock

Personally, I'm partial to the license plate style, and plan on picking up a couple...one of these days. For now, I leave my helmet hanging from the passenger pegs, or take it with me.

I have a small cable lock. I got it at a snow board store...works great and was less than 10 bucks.

That really depends on the bike. I had a Honda Nighthawk before I got Speedy. That was my biggest complaint about Speedy - I could no longer hang my helmet back there.

I saw a few posts about why people would want to do this: In my state, helmets are not required, so I rarely wear one (weather is why I usually wear one (cold) - or why I don't (f'ing hot) )

But, I have passengers that won't ride unless they are wearing one... So, it was nice on the Nighthawk to be able to hang my helmet back there. It fit very snugly, didn't bounce or move at all while the bike was moving, and if the passenger didn't want to wear it, it was completely out of the way of their legs (it hung just under their butt).

I would take that cable and run it through the big hole I've seen ebay listings for helmets with cut straps, it's too easy if you are just locking the strap or d ring.

I have been wondering about securing helmets also. These are great suggestions better than my wifes she says my helmets are so ugly no one would steal them any way. Can't wait to call her and tell her I have to buy a new one cause some Punk stole it while I was at Wal mart.

I have an older speedy,,,and under the seat there are 1 inch prongs,,,that dont seem to be there for much of anything,,,but they work great for securing my helmet,,I just unlock the seat,,,loop the D-ring over it,,,and lock the seat back down,,,works great and there is no way to get the helmet off without cutting the strap
