Well there's been a lot of talk on here about using Triumph oil filters and what you've gotta do to keep the factory two year warranty. I asked a couple of weeks ago how bad it was that I went to 750 miles before getting my 500 done and the answer I got was basically "no big deal." Well it turns out in the warranty it says that you've gotta get it serviced exactly at the intervals BY Triumph service guys. How strict is this? I mean if something went wrong with my 07 would they be like "well you went over on miles before bringing it in for the 500 service"? I'm just slightly nervous about it. Any of you guys had any experience with this?

I had to take my 05 in for various stuff under warranty and they dont seem to care too much as long as you phone in advance and book, theres no way you could roll the bike in exactly at 500 miles on the clock etc

My dealer told me they dont do first service until at least 800 miles so I dont think it matters to much

My bike had 800 miles on the clock and it wasn't a problem with the dealer or warranty. I believe the 500 mile statement is a suggested service period to replace the dirty break-in oil and filter. The oil they replace the factory break-in oil with is a pure synthetic oil that can be run many more miles before oil changes than the break-in oil. As for the factory oil filter issue, since I change my oil more frequently than the recommended period, I use the Triumph filter for peace of mind in case there is an engine problem. It eliminates that chink in the armor when it comes to discussing the warranty.

Maybe not to the dealer, but they're being pretty foolish, IMO.

As has been pointed out, there's almost no way to do the job at exactly 500 miles (although I did manage to time my Rocket pretty closely at 506; would've been 3 less but for a road construction detour).

Most Triumph shops I've dealt with don't blink an eye before about 600, but the run-in oil gets pretty contaminated by then and is losing its film strength rapidly too. Dragging out the wait for another couple hundred miles, during a part of its life when your engine and gearbox are still relatively vulnerable, makes no sense at all.

the thing with warranty is they have to prove it was because of you that made it break. if your front brake caliper went bad and started leaking fluid, they couldn't tell you no its not under warranty because you didn't get the oil changed at 500 miles.

The US has laws that prohibit the manufacture from requiring you to use a specific brand of parts or to use only their service facilities. I have done every bit of service on my bikes myself with non Triumph filters & oil. Just keep receipts and records.
