What is the deal with the local Triumph dealer taking most of the gas out of full tanks on bikes that are taken in for service ?? My Speedy and my son's Sprint both were emptied out from almost full down to less than 1 gallon when we picked em up. That is about 8 gallons of 93 octane at $3.00+ per. I do not want to hear a bunch of BS on safety or that is our policy etc. What are they doing? Losing customers for darn sure!! This is really unreal-I worked in a car shop and a bike shop for awhile in my life and we NEVER took customers gas out of a car unless there was some real problem in the fuel tank or pump etc.=same for bikes-if we took it out we put it back in!! Are they thieves or just stupid?? It does not matter because they will never see any of my money again-this is the same place that did the 40 days and 40 nights deal on the cam chain for my son's Sprint. The told us they were trying to cut expenses on warranty claims under instructions from Triumph!!
This is just unreal.

It's time for a new dealer.

Next time have them do a once-over the entire bike with you and have them document the condition of the bike and how much fuel is in the tank. Get them to sign off on it, then if they screw anything up or drain the tank, they have to put it back the way it was. "Oh, and I noticed you left a nice scratch in my tank... I'd like a new tank without that scratch."

I am surprised an official dealer would do that since they have a reputation to mantain. You should take it up with them or write to Triumph. It doesnt take much effort to complain and it'll feel a whole lot better than just walking away angry even if nothing comes out of it. And if it gets ugly....doesn't matter since you are not going back anyway.

Well, he already said he doesn't want to hear what he already knows they're going to say.

But the fact remains, THEY are the only ones who can tell you definitively why they don't store and replace the gas, as my dealer does when it's necessary to remove the tank for some reason.

Now if I knew that wasn't my dealer's policy, I sure wouldn't be going there with a full tank all the time! And especially not 93 octane, which is useless in the first place.

It could very well be that when they have to drain a tank, they don't want to risk contaminants in their gas cans that might cause them to be accused of fouling someone else's fuel system later. That's a little excessively paranoid, IMO, and I can understand the wariness based on the very specious sounding stuff regarding the cam chain previously; but in this litigious age, when it comes to the fuel question, there could be some justification for their concern.

Bottom line: If this has happened once, a person ought to at least ask what their policy is on used gas. If he doesn't, and it keeps happening, then he has no one but himself to blame for wasting money by going in with a full tank.
