That's probably a leftover from the old days. It's no secret that the four-cylinder Sprints and Trophies were nearly copies of Kawasakis, at least in the basic layout. Put a 2002 Sprint next to a Concours and you'll see a lot of eerie similiarities in the engine, frame, even the eccentric chain adjuster on the swingarm. But the S3? Uh... no.

everyone knows that Honda secretly designed and built the Speed Triple at a location off the coast of Japan on a floating bardge rented out by japanese British citizens. DUH.

Complete bull*****. I can't remember the exact company, but one of the high end european car manufacturers helped Triumph develop the triple motor, and Triumph has been modifying and upgrading the design since.

Actually he is right in the fact that there was Jap influence but it was from Yamaha. I have heard stories that an ex Yamaha engineer now works with the NEW Triumph and has direct influence from Yamaha engineers still. Really! Ask around....

Is there an article or something on this I could look up? Because I'd always heard and read that Porsche or Ferarri had developed the initial T509/595 motor for Triumph. Perhaps Triumph is taking design cues and advice from Yamaha techs for the newer bikes (and their assembly line is somewhat copied from Honda), but I'd never heard that the 3-cylinder motor was made by Yamaha.
