Exhaust smoke...

Hey all, as your probably aware, I'm the newb who just got a used 06.

Anyway, yesterday morning I ran outta gas as my wallet was left at work the night before. :hihi: I only live about 20miles from work and my light came on about 10miles from home the night before. I got all the way but the last 2miles and had a co-worker come with the gas can! :blush:

Well this morning I was outside wiping down my bike as I got caught in the rain the previous night, and when I started her up to go to work the exhaust was smoking really bad. It didn't stop until the engine warmed up to 4bars (on the gauge). Then when it stopped the radiator and oil cooler were steaming! Finally that went mostly away, but it stunk as I rode to work. When I went out for lunch, nothing wrong!

Any help? Is this normal or is my coolant and/or oil bad? I haven't checked these yet, as I just got the bike a few days ago and am planning on doing a full 6k service on it myself next week.

sounds like you just had some water sitting in the exhaust, and on the outside of the radiator, with it getting caught in the rain.

I'm pretty sure that's what it was Jay, but I thought I'd post it for those much smarter and more experience than I to tell that- thanks!

Other than the crappy fuel economy (my F 650 gets 60-70mpg!) and uncomfortable seat (ordering a Sergant) the bike is a dream! Might need to get a new exhaust too....

Hi SPK - I saw you're from Orlando too. We probably got dumped on by the same cloud. I've been getting caught out in the rain pretty regularly lately.

Don't worry about the smoke -- as long as it's white, it's just steam.

What color is your S3? I'll keep an eye out for you on the road.
