But not what you may be thinking. Just curious if on the 500 mile service if I should start with Synth, or wait until the first post-break-in oil change? I seemed to have heard conflicting reports, though I tend to think at 500 shouldn't be a problem. I'm at 500 and will be doing the oil change (don't have $220 for the entire service).
For the record, I use Amsoil in all my bikes.

Triumph dealers use synthetic oil for the initial change. It's not a problem.

I'm wondering if it's an urban legend myself. I'm into amature Auto Racing and hear that often when building new engines, to not use Synthetics until a few 1000 miles. But I've never known anyone who had that mysterious engine that didn't seat it's rings due to syn, although I've known people who's engines didn't break in properly with conventional oil.
I did just over 600 miles on my '07, then changed it out for Mobil1 4T, seems to be fine so far.

A LOT of new cars come from the factory with FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN IT!
This is an urban legend. Old school way of thinking. Came about YEARS ago when engine manufacturing wasn't nearly as precise. Engines are made so precisely these days and require far FAR less "seating" and braking in.

It's hogwash.
My Amsoil warranty states that if your engine breaks down due to using Amsoil, they'll repair or replace your engine and ship you some new oil to boot. Says nothing about break-in anywhere in the paperwork. I'm sure it's just a disclaimer some use 'just in case'.
If you think about it, it might just make better sense to use synthetic from the very beginning. Isn't that when an engine needs to be babied more? Supposedly? Maybe?

engine break in that respect is a leftover from old school engines back in the day.

Thanks everyone....I'm going with Amsoil on the 500 oil change.
Or at least I had hoped to. Unfortunately, I didn't realized how cramped of quarters the oil filter is. I can't seem to get enough leverage with my strap wrenches to get it off. I have an oil filter socket, but it's too large.
I don't have my shop manual yet, but how large is the oil filter socket and can I get one at any auto-parts store, or strictly from my dealer?

That is a very standard filter that is used on lots of cars including my Nissan. You can get a wrench anywhere. You can always take the cave man approach and drive a screwdriver through it. The factory seems to ignore the 3/4 turn from finger tight rule and put them on way too tight.
