I really just do not get it. Surely half the appeal of the S3 is that you do not need to carry a chiropracter around with you as a pillion? It is not a sports bike so why compromise on the riding position? And as for looks; don't really see an aesthetic advantage to them.
Am I missing something? Enquiring minds want to know.

the speedy isn't a sportbike?
Does that mean I can't go to the racetrack anymore?

I've found it a bit strange getting used to such an upright seating position and bars. All my past bikes have been sport-bike style with clip-ons.

Not bad, just different. It certainly, otherwise, feels like a sportbike.

You can still go to the track. I onec saw a guy riding a Tiger at the track. If he can do it so can you. Carry on my wayward son.

Many forget that the Speed triple started with clip-ons.

Once up and running at high speeds the clip-ons make more sense than handle-bars, to me at least. Took my S3 to a track and it was sublime w/ clip-ons.

For regular street riding, stop and go, urban/suburban the handlebars offer control and comfort that cant be beat.

I was hoping someone knew of clip-ons with a bit of rise to them...I'm planning on putting Hawk clip-ons on the SV, thought something like that might be fun on the S-3 as well.

People customize their bikes to how they like them whether it be Clipons, Single headlight, Shiney wheels, Single exhaust, etc. I think thats what makes it a great bike, is the various things you can do to make them unique. How boring if every S3 was the same :-D :-D :-D

For those that can take it, clip ons on an s3 isn't bad. In fact, the initial '97 (european) models came with clip-ons standard and the other bar was an option.

Astetically, it makes the s3 look more like an agressive cafe racer. Functionally, you get better controll if you do alot of riding in the twisties.

I had clip ons on my bike for 5 years but after a while they got to aggressive for longish rides. When I switched back to the standard bar, it felt like I was riding with Ape Hangers. I settled on a set of Suburban Machinery bars....just right.. Not too high, not too low.
