I remember reading some time ago about someone having a problelm with an annoying click or light knock from the front end or headrace bearing area of their Speed Triple, most noticable when braking hard. I tried all the same things ie: headraces, brake caliper mounts etc all to no avail. I think the answer maybe the bar mounts where they bolt into the top yoke, since I tightened mine up (only a very slight amount) everything's been OK.Hope this is useful.

I think your problems is loose stearing head bearings. Just check and tighten and you should be good to go.

+1

I test rode a guys bike I had cash in pocket to buy. Same noise. The stearing head bearings were shot. I asked him if he did a lot of wheelies and he said he did. Short of hitting a wall, wheelies are the hardest thing you can do to stearing head bearings.

Once you tighten them, if you feel any notchiness, you need to replace them.

Could it be the loose nut behind the bars?

I had the same problem, thought it was headstock bearings as I pull a LOT of wheelies and sometimes come down a little hard. There was a pronounced 'click' on braking or sometimes over bumps. I lifted the front up with an engine hoist to check for play and the bearings were fine. I tightened the bar mounts and the noise went away. It came back after a month or so, wheelying must loosen it up.
