To the rest of the world. How come your bikes are dirt cheap compared to Dear Ol' Blighty and yet you say Jack Lilley is as cheap as chips even when sent half way round the world? I don't get it. A new S3 in the USA seems to cost about $9000 which is about £5000. Here in the UK a new bike lists at £7799. Can you not get your bike-treats for a similarly low price? :???:

If you count Finland into Scandinavia, then a new 1050 list price is 15790 eur. Out the door price will not go much under 15000 to 14500 eur (19000 USD+).

So quit yer bitchin!

Here in Aus it`s $15,990 plus "on roads." On roads (meaning the cost to put a vehicle on the road) vary from state to state but include delivery, registration and a 2% stamp duty, plus GST (thats VAT to the poms) which brings it out at about $17,500 ride away. Thats roughly the same price as you are paying in the UK. The Dealer mark up on the bike is about $1000-$1200 and is the only variable when you buy. Here`s a tip, a lot of manufacturers/importers pay a bonus to the dealer based on the number of units they sell per financial year. Towards the end of the financial year, dealers will often sell a bike or car at a loss, just to increase their sales quota and get the big bonus. Our financial year ends on 30th June and I`ve just bought a brand new car for $7,000 less than RRP and $3000 less than second hand examples of the same model are selling for.

Here in the Netherlands 12.300 euro.. with the current exchange rate will be 16.600 us$.. almost twice the price you americas pay.. for us$9000 is about 6700 euro you'll get yourself a 5 year old bike here

I think most price differences come due too tax differences AND other nett pricing to spearate countries..It seems that japanese and european manufacturers won't let the americans "bleed" for theire weak dollar somehow.

But this is in general..not only for thriumph or only motorcycles..when you look at carpricing the difference is staggering, even with europe, in denmark they pay about twice the price for a german car as germans..!

Why should Americans 'bleed' for our weak dollar?

In the end, it sounds like alot of the difference in the price of bikes for you and us is in taxes. Citizens of other countries, with higher taxes, get more from their government (health care, more generous unemployment programs, maybe even roads without potholes which could swallow your bike?).

Not that I'm trying to start a political rant, but we get alot less from our government than yall do.

Part of the cost difference is taxes. You guys are taxed at a much higher rate upon purchase than we are. Your new price I think includes (VAT or MOT) i'm not sure. We don't have anything but a sales tax here in NC. I think it's 5% now.

So we pay MSRP or less plus tax.

Yes. Import tax for motorcycles ~20% and sales tax on top of the whole price 22%.
