The current UK edition of Bike had a showdown between 10 supernakeds and the dear old S3 was out voted 2 to 1 when it came to the final 2 bikes: the S3 and the Tuono R. The opponents traditionally talked about on this website (SuperDuke and Monster S4R) feel by the wayside in the earlier rounds.
.....................needless to say I shall not be buying that magazine again.
They did, however, say that Speedie has the best road engine ever made. Cold comfort in this darkest hour.

TUONO R
Suggested retail price: $17,995

I saw a different review recently that had the S3 edge out the Tuono R 2 to 1. Experts routinely put the S3 at the top of all the naked bikes and occasionally a few will put the S3 in second or third... out of the best naked bikes in the world.

cool with me the S3 still looks cooler for way less $

magazine rankings tend to be meaningless as they are based more an advertising dollars than anything else. I love my bike, i didn't need a magazine to tell me that or compare it to something that costs twice as much. You know whats more fun than an Tuono R and also costs around 18k? an S3 and a 675!

:roflmoa2: :roflmoa2: Yes, cause Aprilia's such a big money advertiser!!! :roflmoa2: :roflmoa2:

Journalists have their own opinions and biases, just like everyone else. But unlike the rest of us, they don't pay for the bikes they are riding.

As said...for 18K the TuonoR damnwell should beat an SPIII in a comparo. The fact that Speedie can go toe to toe with bikes that are 50% to 100% more expensive (TuonoR, Superduke, Duc S4RS, MV 910) and even come out on top in alot of opinions says to me that the folks at Hinckley are kicking some major Italian/Austrian tail.

It would certainly seem easy enough for Triumph to add a quality Ohlins or WP suspension, lose 40 or 50 lbs, and have a $15K-$16K Speedie that would be a much fairer comparison (I wish they would), but as of yet, the standard plainjane triple seems to do just fine.

well no, but maybe they figure that by giving the triumph a neg review they can bait them into spending some advertising dollars.

If magazine reviewers had to buy the vehicles they were reviewing, these comparos would be very different. Not only does one need to look at purchase price, but cost of ownership, dealer network, availability of spares.

I remember one review in the british magazine, CAR, years ago, in which they were reviewing the Ferrari 512BB. The reviewer noted that, if one had a flat tyre (tire) while out on a date, a choice had to be made: leave the 1200 british-pound wheel and tire on the side of the road, or the date, because the only place the road wheel would fit was on the passenger seat. There was no room in the boot (trunk) for anything other than the space-saver spare.

I agree. I think that if the people that wrote the articles owned the bike or had to choose a bike to buy from amongst the group they were testing the S3 would be on top. It was for me, I was looking at all sorts of bikes....by far the S3 was the best of the bunch, not to say that I would never own others, but they would never replace the S3 just augment the garage!
