Actually, it's caused by fuel being dumped into the cylinders and killing the spark. Check your plugs. I bet they're black.
When you whack open the throttle at high manifold pressure, the ECU dumps copious amounts of fuel in to the cylinder to deal with the sudden increase in air. The problem is that there's not much increase in air because you're lugging your engine. That causes an overly rich condition that the plugs just can't set off. After the enrichment period the fueling goes back to it's normal lean self that the plugs can actually light.
Again, check your plugs. If you've done this very often, they're probably fouled. That is unless you like this sort of thing. Then don't change them and it'll get easier and easier to do.
Oh, and start saving for that new engine. We'll want pictures of the rod through your crankcase, too!
