I seem to recall someone posting a how-to about that - can't find it now. Anyone have the skinny?

Wonder if the chrome rivets for the end caps are available separately.

Just buy some stainless rivets. You could buy the special exhaust type rivets but I think that's just a waste of money. Just clean the black smut with some WD40 once in a while.
I've used aluminum rivets I just couldn't be bothered with getting the stainless.

But before you start chopping:
Only take of the endcap on the motor side. Take out the catalyst (big round thing made from a silver foil type stuff, can't miss it) and drill thought the plate that is visable though the hole the cat left. When you're done, you can look right though the exhaust.

This will give you the benefits of the open exhaust but without the pain of trying to put it al back together again.

Oh man, this reminds me of what I went through doing this on my Aprilia. I think it took two late nights after work just to pound the cats out of the midpipes. Drilling out the rivets was easy. Never again. I also learned I needed to spend more money on a proper rivet gun. Still, in the end, I guess it was worth it on the Aprilia because I really like the look of the stockers on that bike (a 2004 model) and now they sound like a much more expensive system. I don't know if both can be said for the S3 system.

I did this actually, if you can fabricate, you can do this project in about 5 hours. Certain tools make the job much easier and cleaner. I did it with some materials I got from Lowes and some muffler packing from the cycle shop around me. Depending what year your bike is, is where your cats are located. If you need any advice let me know
