so...do you really have to remove the tank and airbox to get these MFers off?
hoping there is a way to disconnect from the indicator, rather than at the connection to the signal box (?)

take the lens off of yer signal, unplug connector, and pull out thru the stalk.

All you have to do is take the lens off of the indicator with a screwdriver, lift the bulb mount (with bulb attached) and disconnect the wire from the clips.

Jeez...that's not the way to do it! Clearly a hammer is not the correct tool. This is obviously a job that requires dynamite. Better use a full stick, those signals are really on there good.

I have found that dropping the bike at the gas station will break one off, no need for tools of any kind (other than the rider). :-D
