I changed my oil and filter at about 1000miles recently. I put in Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 15 50 engine oil but have just realised that it doesn't specify for use in motorcycle engines! What a maroon!
I have run it for a hundred miles or so and all seems well but I am worried I might be damaging the engine.
What should I do?
If I do change the oil do I need to change the filter aswell?
Advice most gratefully accepted. :???:

i dont think it matters a whole lot. There is a post about this somewhere way back. If i recollect it said that the oils are fairly similar with just some differences in additives.
Do a search

You'll get various answers to what oils are preferred by members of this forum. There are quite a number out there that regularly use the automotive Mobil 1 15W-50 you mention (myself included), with no ill effects. You may want to search the archives for innumerable oil threads to decide on your preferred oil for the long term, but there are few who would argue that you are doing any harm to your engine with what is currently in it.

If your worried just drop it and put Racing 4T in it. Shouldn't have caused any damage!!

Do NOT use any oils that have friction modifiers. They screw up the clutch. Check the specs for the oil. If it has friction modifiers, I would get rid of it and the filter ASAP. If it doesn't have friction modifiers, you should be okay until the next oil change. IMHO, of course.

A little off topic here, but since I've seen it named in this thread: What's the deal with the Racing 4T oil? I've always used MX4T but now I can't find it where I used to buy it, and now they have Racing 4T instead. I had never seen it before when I would just grab the MX4T. Are they the same oil? Is the Racing 4T a replacement for the MX4T? Anybody know?

Not sure, But Triumph suggests using Racing 4T, I 've always used it in all my Triumphs, I use Mobil1 Synthetic in my car.

Google "Mobil 1 15 50 motorcycle" and you'll get a full host of opinions on the subject that will thoroughly satisfy, confuse, amaze and bewilder you.

Lets not turn this into another oil thread! :hammer:
