Just a quick one guys

I have a 2006 triple and noticed since new it had a slightly 'clunky' gearbox. Wrote this off as a Triumph quirk until I read a thread on here somewhere about this being not quite right.

Anyhow, took the beast in for its 10,000k service and mentioned the gear change notchiness to the mechanic at a new dealer in town. Said mechanic seemed to think it was no big issue to fix. Bike came back with a slightly smoother gear change, but, and heres the rub ... what the hell is that whining noise?

I am guessing chain/transmission. It is noticeable especially on deceleration in lower gears, (probably exists in higher gears but is drowned out by wind noise). The pitch of the whine changes per bike speed, not engine speed, making me think ... well, I dont know really, but presumably not engine related.

I originally thought the chain was tightened too much - but it actually seems allright. So this is where Im confused. I am loathe to ride the bike until I can work this out as I dont want to compund a problem if something in the transmission is too tight or incorrectly put back together after the service.

I will be taking the bike back next week. I'm just looking for some ideas before I confront the mechanic.

Bah

Clearly I am an idiot

Of course there is slack in the chain when I look at it - ITS NOT UNDER LOAD.

I'm back to thinking the shop had the apprentice put things back together and it is too tight. They are 'rectifying' the 'problem' tomorrow.

(Boy, was this a short thread ... two posts and both mine ...)
