I was out for a ride today and noticed the coolant temp gauge was reading 100 degrees. The day was only like 18 celcis. I've never see the gauge above 88 celcis before, even on the hottest days of summer. Now what's going on with my bike ? :???:

Perhaps the thermostat is aging or clogging, or the temperature sensor (or one of its connectors) is acting up.

Or, possibly, one or more of them has started behaving correctly. A closed, pressurized cooling system really should be running warmer than 88C.

I agree with Diego. I have a newer S3, so I don't have a temp number, just a bar graph, but even when its 65 F outside, if I'm in city traffic, the fan frequently kicks on, and the bar graph tends to go as high as 7 of 10 bars regularly. Seemed excessively hot to me at first too, but the service tech at the dealer said that is quite normal for the S3 to run that hot.

I think the triples run hot. I know such blanket statements are dangerous without scientific proof, but there you have it. This is one thing I was wondering about when I moved from the 955 to the 1050. It seems about the same it's just that the gauge is no longer numeric. My Sprint had an LCD for temp and compared to my Aprilia, the Sprint would run about 15F to at most 20F degrees warmer at highway speeds on the way to my local canyon without cagers disrupting the airflow. The day I picked up my "speed pickle" it was around 5PM and the superslab was crawling all the way to my exit and the fan seemed to run constantly on that 80F day. Some folks have tried Water Wetter or a similar product for better heat transfer.
