I like the Reverse Retros because they are positioned higher and more forward, so you don't have to move your head as much (or at all) to see them. I am very mirror-dependent on the road. Personal preference. They are both excellent.
I can only speak to the CRG Lane Splitters as they are the only ones I have experience with.
Pros: minimal design, tuck in nicely if needed, vibration not an issue on the S3, great adjustability, excellent visibility.
Cons: only one, really. They are EXTREMELY fragile. Over-tighten these .00001 NM and the aluminum housing will crack where the bottom nut goes. Torque settings are not provided by the manufacturer. Mounting instructions are included but following them does not magically make this mirror more substantial.
The other mirrors you are considering appear much more substantial. However they are physically larger.
I have a set of CRGs on both my old BMW and new S3. Two things I really like about the CRG Lanesplit mirrors.
One, they fold in making the bikes easier to cram into our single car garage and still be able to walk around them. Also excellent while actually Lanespliting to make yourself narrower and so you mirrors don't break when you slap that Mercedes mirror.
Second these aren't just regular mirrors. They are bit like those fisheye security mirrors. You see EVERYWHERE. Literally no blind spots if you have both a L & R mirror.
I do like the looks of those Reverse Retro mirrors.
I had the Rizoma Reverse Retros on my first S3 and put the CRG lane splits on the second one. You can't really go wrong with either. I think the Rizoma's look a bit more flash but the CRG's are functionally better because of the folding feature. The convex image of the CRG's is a plus & minus situation. They have a very wide field of view but anything more than 30 feet behind you looks tiny. Not a problem unless you are trying to make sure you have not lost the third rider back in your group.
With the CRG's, you just have to get used to the convex mirror. If I am looking back to see if riders are coming, I look for the headlights. At least I can see behind me. With the stock mirrors all I could see was my elbows!
The Rizomas should come with a series of plastic bushings to fill the gap between the mount ID and all the different bar end diameters. No need to buy new bar ends.
OK, I'll admit that the stock mirrors will have to go... have been scouring these forums for opinions - I'll always take advice from the learned ones (that's you guys) rather than jumping in myself (uhhh, that's me) and risk making a mistake...
So... CRG bar ends - nice idea, but I'm actually not so big on the look... in my head I've wanted something that has a short upright stalk with a mirror directed inwards from the mount (so as not to make the bike wider - I don't want to worry about extra clearance each side)
Nothing I could find looked like what I was after..... until I saw those Rizoma Reverse Retro's!
A couple of questions come to mind which don't look to be answered yet... seems some of you have these, so:
- Do they sit high enough and far out enough to give "excellent" visibility? Some of the pics I find look like you'd just get a mirror full of knuckles/wrist...
- Doesn't look like they widen the bars at all, but I can't get a straight-on pic... please confirm?
- Fit & finish is high quality, I guess? Don't want a mirror moving around in the wind or from vibrations...
- Easy to fit? Need ANY modifications or additional adapters to make em work on an '07 S3?
Well, there I've gone and made my very first post a really long-winded and annoying one, but I just gotta know... white S3 arrives end of this week or early next... yeehaw
I have the lane splitter CRG's and I love'em. I'm not sure what the other mirrors you are considering look like, but I think I've seen them. There more square and they have a rise up and forward right? Anyway, The CRG's look way better and they do the job! No complaints!

As you can see, I rotate mine to the outside for better visibility (and extended width, which you don't want). I haven't used them like they are pictured on the website, so I don't know how they perform that way.
Fit and finish is excellent. The only thing I have noticed is the anodizing could be a little more durable. Solid construction.
Easy to fit, but you will have to have bar ends for them to attach to. The stock bar ends might work, as the mirrors come with several adapters, but I opted for the Rizoma bar end, as the picture shows. Ask PJ. He should know.

Thanks Goffe,.. they are nice lookin mirrors... I think I'm sold, will dig around for a final opinion on visibility when rotated inwards, but guess I could always rotate em when I pull up in traffic if I wanna start moving between anyone..? They have a full range of movement like that yeah? Don't have to swap the bar mounts to do that, right?
I'm gonna throw this here instead of a new thread. What's the best place to get the CRG LS's? I had found a deal for $130 a pair on Ebay, but those sold fast.
Thats pretty ***** cheap. I got my first set for about $75 each from Cycle Depot but I also live local and walked in and bought them.
Second set I actually bought direct from CRG themselves. http://www.constructorsrg.com/ I had some really old knock offs that I needed new glass for and they gave me a good deal on a new set. I didn't realize they were knock offs until I called for replacement glass.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
