Been looking at new-ish S3s and can't seem to decide on whether I want an early 2000s bike or a 2005+ model.

I like the rear end styling of the 1050 but seem to hear better mechanical stuff about the 955 bikes.

Any major differences between the bikes that makes one any better than the other... ????

Erick,
the 1050 S3 guys here will speak for themselves because they love them.

I don't think there is anything to worry about the 1050 motor.

Having said that my own ride is a 955i 2004 Sprint ST and I am in love with it.

The 955 has been around a long time and naturally a late model (2004 was the last Sprint) will have the bugs ironed out.

The 1050 makes 5 more HP and is more torquey than the 955 but they are both rock solid, smooth powerful engines that make torquey creamy smooth power from very low revs to the red line.

Over to you S3 boys

What issues have you heard about the 1050? The Speed Triple has been solid (as far as I know) since inception. Daytona's have had various issues but not the S3...do share. pcn:

Go for the 955i! You want a bike that can actually stop when you apply the brakes. Also, you can pick up a good used 955i for half the price as a used 1050. The 1050 is a good motor and the 1050 S3s are good machines, but after riding several 1050s the power difference isn't worth the cost difference in my opinion. If you're super concerned about power I would just go out and buy a K1200R and get it over with, but other wise I would base my opinion on looks and price. The 1050 brake issue has apparently been fixed by a recall of sorts, but I still like to bring it up to the 1050 guys since I'm a jerk. They are both solid machines, but how much do you want to spend?

I have loved the 02-04 Body ever since seeing it for the first time curves are sexy so my wife tells me. Plus great price helped to make my dreams come true.

955i is my vote.

That's what I'm talking about. I see you still have the original turn signals though, I wish I had still had them on mine. The previous guy did tail tidy/cat eye signal deal on it.

But not one of those gay 02 onwards models. A proper T509 stylee machine.

I've generally found that when manufacturers upgrade a model, or a motor, they do not do so to make it worse. :hammer:
