So I have an '07 Triple with just over 1,000 miles on it (Finally broken in!). Things are going great on it except when I park now it will leak about a cup of coolant from the coolant reservoir overflow tube. I know this is typical if the triple is overheated but it has never ran hot and been in the middle of the temperature range each time I parked it, but it still pisses all over, its actually kind of embarrassing

I do live in Colorado (about 7,000' above sea level) which makes for a lower boiling point for liquids. In fact my old GSXR did this sometimes too.

Is this a good candidate for warranty work?

Thanks for any replies ahead of time.
-Ryan

Ryan,

After it's done leaking all over itself, what is the coolant level in the overflow bottle? If it is still near the min. level, I would just leave it like that.

If it is refilled to the max. level when cold, just before taking off for a ride, then it will make a mess when it's turned off hot. Curiously, the coolant gets hottest (and expands the most) after a hot ride - the coolant in the engine is no longer circulating so the engine's heat has no where to go except into that small mass of water which will then expand and ....

OTOH, if the coolant level continually goes below min. and is not overfilled, then there's another problem.

Let us know what you find.

Never had any overflow problems up here on my 06. I think the dealer overfilled the tank when the bike was first prepped.

Thanks for the replies, Ill keep an eye on the coolant level and if it drops below the Min. line I will take it in.

If anyone else at high altitudes has similar experiences I would like to read them

Thanks!

Mine used to do this, the mechanic fixed the radiator cap and it no longer does. Check your radiator cap.

> Check your radiator cap.

Good advice. Altitude should have nothing to do with the boiling point of coolant inside a closed system, which this is so long as the radiator cap functions properly.

It's just marking it's territory! My '01 used to do that after a good blast, even when the level was at the low mark. I replaced it with Evans waterless coolant, and it hasn't done it since.

Same thing happened to mine after I filled it to the max level. After is leaked about three times the bike found its happy place and it never occured again.

Like the other said, leave it at the min level and you will be fine. And by the way I'm in the Denver area with the same altitude.

Thanks for the advice, I checked the reservoir and it is bone dry, even below the min line. I called up the local triumph dealer and they said they will take a look at it ASAP.

I'll keep you posted with the outcome.

-I have been looking for waterless coolant, where did you find a place who sells it?

-True, however once the fluid is in the reservoir (past the rad. cap) it is no longer in a closed system and will boil at lower temperatures.
