Hi there. New to the forum, so the beers are on me.

I've just bought a yellow 98 model T595 Daytona which I plan to convert to Speed triple spec. The bike has minor cosmetic damage, but it's mostly to the plastics so anything undamaged will probably find it's way onto EBay.

So my questions are....

1. The bike needs a new front wheel spindle. I've found a used spindle from a 2000 model Daytona on EBay. Will this fit the 98 model, or do I need a spindle specific to the earlier bikes?

2. There is a very slight leak from the oil cooler. I've been told this can be easily repaired with a little soldering. Does anybody have experience of this, and the associated cost?

I hope to be starting the work within the next week or so and will keep you all informed of my progress with pics.

Looking forward to chatting here and being part of the community.

Neil.

As for the spindle, I'm not sure. I guess it would fit??? As for the oil leak, wouldn't it just beeasier to replace the leaking gasket? If you soldier it it may sort of catch fire?

Not sure you'd get far soldering it TBH. If it's wet at all the solder won't take. And as Euro says you risk a fire anyway cos that's oil in there.

Spindle.....a new one can't be that expensive, surely.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I should point out that my budget is severely limited here. I have a total of £1500 to get this bike on the road. So any savings are essential. My bike won't be 100% accurate for a while, but as time and money allows I'll upgrade to genuine parts. Summer is on the way, and I'm not going to be without a bike any longer that necessary.

As to the oil cooler, I'll maybe have to try a few breakers.

Right, back to the accessories websites. Need some headlights now.

Contact your local dealer (or do you call them agents?). He should be able to tell you if the spindle will fit.

As to the oil cooler - what would it cost to take the part to a radiator shop for them to solder?

Good luck with your conversion - I'm sure the sale of the body bits will greatly help offset the conversion costs.

It's always worth calling the local dealer first for prices, as some parts are cheap.

Otherwise try Triumph-ant, who are a Triumph breaker. They will more than likely have the correct spindle and maybe an oil cooler cheaper than a repair.

Seem to recall that Decosse was selling some T509 parts...maybe he has an oil cooler? He certainly had forks - maybe the spindle.
