I replaced the rear mudguard/battery in my '98 T509 with that from an '01 955 (this was to better accomodate mounting of the MC1000 ECM as part of my Daytona retro)
Now I tried to order the battery tray for the 'new' battery box: item #3 in the fiche below.
However, it seems that perhaps there is NO battery tray support in the 00/01 model?

The two items described for item #3 are

- Battery Tray Support 885cc engine
- Support, Battery Tray ser # 89736 & below, 955cc engine

I had ordered the latter thinking it to be the part but it is very similar to the one I already had - both fit in the new box, but the mounting holes do not line up; there is a subtle difference between the one I had & the new one (which would essentially be the two parts described on BikeBandit above) and that is just the position of the detents for the battery which are slightly wider apart on the second one.

I think I now realize that the tray is perhaps only used in the T509 & T595 chassis - the difference being the 885 or 955 motor and a slightly different battery between the two.

Anyhoo, here's my basic question:
IS there a support tray (as per item #3) at all in the 2000/2001 battery box, or just the strap (item 17) which also serves to secure the battery positionally in the base of the box?

If anyone has a pic of the battery in the box, that would be most helpful!

D, I just have the battery box and strap #17, minus part#3. I will take a pic tomorrow, and post it.

Thanks much for clarifying that!
It was really driving me nuts - the tray from the earlier version fits in the box & actually holds the battery quite secure from moving laterally because of those raised blocks you see on the base of item # 3 (the battery sits snugly between them)
But the holes in the tray don't line up with the slots for the speed clips in the base of the 01 box

I can see how the strap stops it moving up & down & probably fore/aft - what stops it moving left/right? Just the tension of the strap?
At the front of the box, I see a slot in the plastic - does the strap just fit into that? Then there are two holes in the rear of the box just down from the fuse panel that I assume the rear part of strap (with what look like dimples) plugs into?

Right, the strap fits in the slot, then you slide it to the left to lock it, and the 2 holes are for plastic pins that hold the strap down. Just use a zip tie through the holes after the battery is in. I used wide strips of velcro on the back of the battery and glued to the back of the box to keep the battery from shifting. Also, to make it easier to remove the battery, I took 1" nylon strap and duct taped it to the battery to make a handle to lift it out for storage. The folded strap also helps the strap 17 hold the battery firmly vertically. Hope that helps!

Yes - big help!
I especially like the idea of the lift strap - having already lifted it out once, I can see what a great asset that would be!
